Historic Palin-Obama Conest Coming?

Is this the woman that will derail Obama's effort to be a two-term President? One hopes so.

This particular blog came to an end after the election of Nov. 4, 2008, but I now am blogging regularly at two sites: http://draftpalin2012.blogspot.com/ and http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com/.

Until Jan. 20, 2009 (Inauguration Day, I'll be cross-posting pieces at those two sites. Beginning with the presidency of President Barack Hussein Obama the columns on stevemaloneygop will deal with the Obama Administration. There will be approximately four columns per week, sometime more.

On the DraftPalin2012, I will be writing approximately five-six times per week. Almost all the columns will deal with Gov. Sarah Palin and her historic candidacy for the U.S. presidency. Yes, as the saying goes, "She's in it to win it."

As she seeks to recover politically from her failed election bid on Senator John McCain’s ticket, the big question for Gov. Sarah Palin has been whether her backers would remain enthusiastic over the long run.

As it turns out, over the past few days, about 1,000 people have donated tens of thousands of dollars to Our Country Deserves Better, a political action committee that is planning a pro-Palin advertisement later this month.

“We thought it would be appropriate to have the thank-you ad run around Thanksgiving,” said Joe Wiezbicki, the PAC’s coordinator. The group expects to shoot on Monday and raise “a couple hundred thousand dollars” to buy airtime nationally.

Our Country Deserves Better, based in Sacramento, was founded during the campaign to draw contrasts between Senator Barack Obama and John McCain, holding a cross-country, 40-stop tour and even running a pro-Palin commercial. Ms. Palin’s nomination brought praise from conservatives, and she drew large, enthusiastic crowds.

But now, Mr. Wierzbicki said, there has been “an absence of a pro-Palin cohort.”

“This woman’s reputation is going to be so damaged that she can never be a national political figure,” he added. So the goal of the ad is to “preserve her options.”

Mr. Wierzbicki said he was “surprised” by the response so far, which he called a “testament to her”, given typical post-election fatigue, especially on the losing side.

“I don’t think we would’ve seen the same level of response” if the planned spot were to defend Mr. McCain, he said.

McCain Can Win PA, Election

I expect Barack Obama to win the popular vote by perhaps three million ballots. However, that doesn't mean John McCain has no chance to win the presidency. How could that happen? (Obama apparently will win California by two million votes; he will win NY by almost one million. That will make the rest of the country roughly even. McCain is not competing in CA or NY.)

To emerge with a victory on Nov. 4, McCain needs to win Ohio, FL, PA, NC, and VA. Other than that, we're in great shape. :-)

However, we have a chance of winning those six states. If we lose one, I prefer it to be VA. McCain has a narrow window, but narrow is better than a brick wall. If McCain pulls off a big upset in a state, please God, let it be CO!

Critical point: If you hear a lot Tuesday night about the "Wilder Effect," you are allowed to cheer and have a couple of drinks. That refers to the time when Doug Wilder, of some African-American descent, was ahead in the polls by 9 points for Gov. of VA. In fact, he ended up winning by just under ONE percent. People fib to pollsters for much the same reason they hang up on telemarketers.

I have a hunch Obama will get about 3-4% fewer votes (and McCain about 2-3% more) in battleground states than the polls suggest. If that doesn't happen, the Obaminable One probably wins. :-

When I need sources of optimism, I look back to the Dem. Primaries, where Obama was supposed to win NH big (and he lost rather badly) and come close in PA (where he lost b y almost 10 points). Must have been "the Wilder Effect," right?

In about a week, this election-specific blog basically will cease to exist . . . in that there will be no more posts. John McCain will either have won Pennsylvania (and the presidency), or he won't. In addition, my hillarysupportersformccain site will also cease to exist. I will be blogging basically at two sites: http://stevemaloneygop.blogspot.com and http://draftpalin2012.blogspot.com. I urge you to visit both sites and bookmark them. I also ask you, if you're a blogger, to join the ReadMyLipstickNetwork, which I've also done. McCain Will Win Pennsylvania

These two individuals will be the next President and Vice-President of the US.

About the new Gallup Poll showing Obama ahead NATIONALLY among likely voters by 2% and ahead by a somewhat higher percentage among registered voters (in the "expanded" model):

I'll be writing more about Gallup's so-called "expanded" model, which contains some major flaws. The expanded model looks for a very high turnout among the "new" Democratic voters. We heard the same thing in 2004, where there was high Democratic turnout -- which was offset by extremely high Republican turnout.

We also heard in 2004 (from Gallup and others) that 8 out-of-9 Independent voters were breaking for Kerry, WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE.

In 2004, Gallup also said Bush would win PA; he didn't; and that Kerry would win OH, which he didn't.The expanded model over-represents votes in a number of states that Obama is already going to win, including DC (not a state), California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Michigan. It doesn't matter in terms of electoral vote whether he wins those states 51-49 or 90-10.

Also, the "expanded" model doesn't include the Bradley Effect, which means Obama polls better than he does on election day (as happened in the PA Primary). Ironically, Obama's own internal polls (showing PA as close) are probably a better model than Gallup's.

On "likely voters": In past elections, between one-in-four and one-in-five "likely voters" did not vote. Among registered voters, the ratio of non-voters is significantly higher. I believe Barack Obama probably will win a majority of the votes cast in the U.S. However, because he's getting a disproportionate number of those votes in states McCain is NOT contesting, the Republican candidate conceivably could win a majority of the electoral votes.

That's a major reason for Obama's panicked return to Pittsburgh, which is the wrong city for him to visit, since he's already going to win the 'Burgh. McCain and Palin are going to the right places (including Beaver County, Hershey, and State College).

Note: If John Kerry had gotten 150,000 more votes in Ohio, he would have won a majority of electoral votes. Yet countrywide, Bush still would have won by 2.9 million ballots.

If John McCain wins FL, OH, and PA, he will be the next President of the United States. Keep your eye on Zogby, which hit the 2000 race dead-center.

Democrat Party: Can't Be Reformed

I sent the following message to a Hillary Supporter who asked if I had "given up" on this year's election:

I have NOT given up on the election at all. I've worked so hard for so many months that I have something approaching Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Hell, I'm still trying to win Pennsylvania, which I believe we just might do. I've predicted (guessed?) that McCain may take the national lead by the end of October. We shall see.

However, I realize that after an election -- win or lose -- a whole lot of people tend to disappear. Then, two years or four years later, everybody starts re-inventing the same wheel that they already "invented" previously. It's impossible to win modern elections that way.

Thanks for your continuing support of McCain-Palin, a ticket of two honorable people.

As you already know, I do not believe the Democratic Party is going to "reformed." Who on earth would reform it? I have scrupulously supported such "reform" efforts for many months now, but at this point I regard them as folly and fantasy.

Democrats -- like the Clintons -- who should be leading the reform movement are running around drooling over Obama. His despicable campaign will be the "model" for all future Democratic Party efforts.

Joe The Plumber Was Right

The number of ignorant people in America is growing much faster than the number of intelligent ones." (Chris H, paraphrase)

The Saturday morning business segment on FOX News has its moments of silliness and posturing. But if you listen carefully, you'll learn more about jobs and the economy in one morning than the average Obama Supporter has learned in a lifetime.

For example, "the top 10% of wage-earners [Joe the Plumber is smiling] pay 80% of federal income taxes." Barack Obama knows this startling fact, but you'll never hear him or and other left-wing Democrats admit it.

The average American, according to various surveys, knows nothing about the huge "patriotic" (?) "contributions" (?) made by high wage earners. Our typical American apparently believes -- falsely, absurdly -- that high wage-earners pay little or nothing in taxes.

People like Obama and Biden make lucrative careers out of fostering such illusions. Alas, when its comes to economic knowledge, the average American is relentlessly . . . average. As such, he or she is the custodian of a vast horde of misinformation.

Another FOX insight: since the stock market crash in 1987, how much has the "tech-heavy" NASDAQ index declined? In fact, since that sharp market decline two decades ago, the NASDAQ has gone UP by 486%. That number takes into account the the recent decline.

If you focus on that time period (1987 until now), it would have been wise to put ALL your money in NASDAQ equities. Your investment then to now would have skyrocketed. Oh, and if you'd been able to put a portion of your Socal Security contributions into the NASDAQ, as Bush and McCain proposed -- and Obama opposed -- you'd be looking at an affluent retirement. Of course, your involuntary "contributions" to the Social Security Trust Fund really didn't grow at all -- since the money went out as fast as it came in.

Again, we turn to FOX: What about Obama's plan to dole out $500 (or more) to all Americans earning less than $250,000 a year? Isn't that just what he calls it, a tax "rebate?" No, it isn't because the $500 would go both to most of the 60% of wage earners who DO pay taxes -- and to all the 40% who don't pay taxes.

In other words, for approximately 100 million Americans who don't pay federal income taxes, the $500 would be a welfare check. It would be especially welcomed by Obama's core demographic: the tens of million of non-income-tax payors who will be voting for the Illinois Senator.

There are just a few paragraphs in this piece. But they contain information that most American voters should know -- but don't.

The smart Americans, those who are economically savvy, will not generally be voting for Obama. The stupid Americans -- those who know as much about economics as they do astrophysics -- will cast their ballots heavily for the Illinois Senator.

Why do left-wing Democrats like Obama continue humoring -- and deceiving -- ignorant people, uninformed voters? They do so because it's good politics. They may end up wrecking the economy, but -- unfortunately -- such demagogues will rarely lack for "work" themselves.

Putting Obama in charge of the economy is like making Rev. Wright president of a theology school.

Sarah Palin's motto is: "Serve the people." Her motto, unlike Obama's, is NOT "delude the people."

My Confrontation with Obama Supporter

I was just out (Thursday night) at the Sunoco in Ambridge. A woman there (young, 20s) asked me about my McCain-Palin hat and if I was voting for them. (If you're sensing, she was not a fount of wisdom, you're right.)

She isn't voting -- if she votes at all -- for McCain-Palin. I asked her why she was voting for Obama -- and if she can name one thing he's accomplished in his time as a state senator and a U.S. Senator. Of course, she couldn't.

I said, "So, you're voting for a guy who has no record -- and has accomplished nothing."

She looked at me and said, "Exactly!"

God save us from terminally ignorant voters. God save us from Obama Supporters that are as devoid as he of any achievements.

What Jouranlists Can You Trust

At some point in early November I'm going to send out details information about the "media you can trust." They may take a point of view, but they admit to it -- as Michelle Malkin would -- and they sincerely try to find out the truth. Judi McLeod at CanadaFreePress is one. The Weekly Standard is another. The Wall Street Journal is by far the best truth-teller among the big dailies.

I used to write for National Review, and I've always found it a very worthwhile publication. Fortune magazine (which I also wrote for a couple of times) is a serious publication about business.

There are also columnists who distinguish themselves regularly, including Jack Kelly of the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette, Debra Saunders of the San Francisco Chronicle, and some others. Sean Hannity of FOX is admittedly no Edward R. Murrow, but he's infinitely better than his competitors.

Katie Hastings Omalley of Human Events is one of the best political journalists around. Kyra Phillips is the one very good journalist at CNN. Heidi Collins is also good within the constraints of that network. Amanda Carpenter at Townhall is consistently solid, as is Diana West at Washington Times.

This is not people's "standard fare," but these people and outlets are the ones decent Americans should be reading and viewing. Pass this along if you'd like.

I sent my young friend, Rhandi, from Corpus Christi, Texas, copies of the pictures above of U.S. soldiers reenlisting en masse in Baghdad. She replied with a heartfelt letter about her experience as a young army wife. It touched me greatly, and I hope it will also touch you. Young people like Rhandi Elliott truly are the future of our country.

You have me in tears. I don't know how I missed this, but thank you so much for the nice little "shout out." My husband has served nearly 8 long years in the military (including 2 deployments - 1 being a consecutive 2 together, and the later being the whole first year of our marriage). He, too, reenlisted in Baghdad. He will be in for as long as he can - only 12 years until retirement is an option, which at that time he will be 39 years young.

It's amazing when I think about the things I've sacrificed simply to be with him (leaving my comfort zone, families, and friends, attending a new school, and trying to start and continue life in a whole nother state, a whole nother atmosphere), but even more amazing still is the dedication and sacrifices I've seen him and other men and women like him, including friends, make for the better of our whole society.

My best friend from Portland, TX is marrying a marine in December, who is also thinking about reenlisting for the sole purpose of believing in what we're doing and what our country stands for. He planned on going in for four years and getting the heck out, but now that it's come down to it - he is pretty close to staying in for at least 1 more enlistment.

This man has a college degree and is one of the most educated, intelligent young men I know. I wouldn't want men and women of any less of caliber as he and my husband out there fighting for us. Just goes to show that pretty much every stereotype I've ever heard, and may have repeated, about our men and women in uniform is extremely wrong. :)

In the household I live in (and run :wink:), we support McCain. In the household I came from, they support McCain. In the households I've visited in my recent trip to Texas, we support McCain. I hung out with a BIG, BIG group of young adults (ages 20 to 24) and we were amazed by the fact that we could all agree on the same presidential candidate.

Yes, politics did not get ugly between our group, and it seemed to only strengthen our beliefs, knowledge and united front regarding the future president of our country.

I've never seen so many young people get involved and feel this strongly, but going back to Texas made me proud to be where I was from, and even prouder to be apart of the friendships and relationships I have there, and with other fellow political followers.

When that big a group of young adults can get together and continue to have a good time speaking about political elections and candidates without all hell breaking loose and a big confrontation, you've got to know that something good is going on, and something great could be happening.I'm with you 1000% Steve.

As is my husband, best friend and her fiance, who is currently deployed, plus the many, many others that I know - soldiers and civilians alike.

HILLARY: WEAK, IRRESOLUTE OBAMAPHILE

One of America's most cynical women . . .

Let's see: during the Democratic Primaries, Obama branded both Clintons as racists -- and added that Mrs. Clinton was a warmonger and a liar. So, both of them are now wildly campaigning for their tormentor -- the man Mrs. Clinton labeled as no more than "a speech he gave in 2002." Yes, Barack Obama is an empty suit, but, well, he's also a Democrat.

I sent the following to one of "Hillary's" staunchest supporters -- a woman who, unlike her political "heroine" -- is now campaigning for McCain-Palin.

I would like to say that I think it's time you and other former Hillary Supporters step up to the plate and label her actions on behalf of Obama for what they are: disgraceful, despicable, and immoral. I realize Hillary's Supporters demand almost nothing from her, and she certainly lives down to their expectations. If this is the real Hillary, she would make a terrible President.

She's a weak person, easily intimidated and totally focused on her absurd "career." It is a career based totally on riding on the coattails of men with no respect for her -- Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. John McCain and Sarah Palin have been completely respectful of her. In return, she's joined Barack Hussein Obama, Chicago politician, heaping garbage on them.

Clearly, she values Party over County, and that's not exactly a quality we want in a person that might occupy the White House.

Okay, Zogby has Obama ahead by two points (as did Diageo, which has been in the tank for Obama), and Hotline has it at one point. I've written recently about what we should do (fight like h--l) "when we take the lead again." I said I thought that would happen sometime around the beginning of the third week of October but perhaps as late as early November. Obama all through the primaries "over-polled" and "under-performed in the voting booth."

In the PA Primary (April 22), Wolf Blitzer and others said the race was "tightening" and we even heard their favorite cliche ("too close to call"). I said that Hillary Clinton would win by 10 percentage points. On April 23, it was at 10 points, although it fell to 9.2% by the end of the day. I do know PA voters (ornery!).

I also predicted Clinton could win OH, TX and IN, in all of which Obama "over-polled." Sen. Clinton won all three.

In 2004, Gallup came under heavy criticism from the far-Left for having "too many Republicans" in its survey template. Like terrified rabbits, Gallup changed its legendary template ("the gold standard"). As a result, it got both the national and the state races wrong.

It said in early November, 2004 that Bush would win PA by two points and Kerry would win Ohio by two points. I told the editor of the Pittsburgh daily that maybe Gallup had gotten the states confused. Kerry won PA by three points, and Bush won Ohio by two points. Gallup also predicted that Kerry could win FL, which he lost by hundreds of thousands of votes.

There has been a lot of talk about "the Bradley Effect," referring to the fact that voters tell pollsters that they will vote for a Black man -- and then don't. It does exist in this campaign, and there are a (very) few people trying to figure out its effect on this year's election. Why do people tell pollsters "fibs?" Because they think (correctly) that's what the pollsters want to hear.

One great caller in Beaver County, PA (Audrey) is so sweet and friendly that when she asks voters if they support John and Sarah, EVERYBODY SAYS YES!

Gallup's "internal numbers" have had McCain ahead as recently as last week (45-39), but it's buying the heavy "new" (Black mostly) vote theory, so it put McCain behind. Say what?? In the PA primary, Obama lost approximately 60 counties out of 67. He won some suburban Philly counties by relatively narrow margins. He won Philly (big), Pittsburgh (city), Harrisburg, and downtown Lancaster. Otherwise, he didn't win squat. His support in PA is very soft.

Beware the polls (especially CNN), my friends. I love those polls of course, but I don't really believe them on a day-to-day basis.

October 6, 2008Today in Albuquerque, NM, John McCain took those gloves off. While some had thought he would concentrate on Obama’s questionable associations they got none of that. Instead they got vintage McCain. Someone I have admired for many years and have been looking for. Some highlights before the article.

I set out on my own campaign for president many months ago. I promised at the beginning to be straight with the American people, knowing that even those who don’t agree with me on everything would expect at least that much. I didn’t just show up out of nowhere, after all — America knows me.

This is the agenda I have set before my fellow citizens. And the same standards of clarity and candor must now be applied to my opponent. Even at this late hour in the campaign, there are essential things we don’t know about Senator Obama or the record that he brings to this campaign.

We have all heard what he has said, but it is less clear what he has done or what he will do. What Senator Obama says today and what he has done in the past are often two different things. He has often changed his positions in this campaign, and the best way to determine where he would really take this country is to examine where he has tried to take it in the past.

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain today delivered the following remarks as prepared for delivery at the McCain-Palin 2008 rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico:

In less than a month, the American people will make a choice on where they want this country to go, and who they trust to lead us in a time of war and economic crisis. The time for debating and electioneering is drawing to a close. Soon it will be the time for choosing.

Today we have seen a reminder of the importance of that choice. The action Congress took last week to address our financial crisis was a tourniquet, but not a permanent solution. Today we are seeing the stock market fall, and the credit crisis spread to other parts of the world. Our economy is still hurting -- working families are worried about the price of groceries, the price of gas, keeping their jobs and paying their mortgage -- further action is needed. We need to restore confidence in our economy and in our government.

Washington is still on the wrong track and we still need change. The status quo is not on the ballot. We are going to see change in Washington. The question is: in what direction will we go? Will our country be a better place under the leadership of the next president -- a more secure, prosperous, and just society? Will you be better off, in the jobs you hold now and in the opportunities you hope for?

Will your sons and daughters grow up in the kind of country you wish for them, rising in the world and finding in their own lives the best of America? And which candidate's experience -- in government and in life -- makes him a more reliable leader for our country and commander in chief for our troops? Who is ready to lead? In a time of trouble and danger for our country, who will put our country first?

You need to know who you're putting in the White House -- where the candidate came from and what he or she believes. And you need to know now, before it is time to choose.

In 21 months, during hundreds of speeches, town halls and debates, I have kept my promise to level with you about my plans to reform Washington and get this country moving again. As a senator, I've seen the corrupt ways of Washington in wasteful spending and other abuses of power, and as president I'm going to end them -- whatever it takes. I will propose and sign into law reforms to bring tax relief to the middle class and help to businesses so they can create jobs.

I will get the rising cost of food and gas under control. I will help families keep their home, and help students struggling to pay for college. I will make health care more accessible and affordable. I will impose a spending freeze on all but the most vital functions of government. I will review every agency of the federal government, improve those that need to be improved and eliminate those that aren't working for the American people. I will confront th e ten trillion-dollar debt that the federal government has run up, and balance the federal budget by the end of my term in office.

This is the agenda I have set before my fellow citizens. And the same standards of clarity and candor must now be applied to my opponent. Even at this late hour in the campaign, there are essential things we don't know about Senator Obama or the record that he brings to this campaign.

My opponent has invited serious questioning by announcing a few weeks ago that he would quote -- "take off the gloves." Since then, whenever I have questioned his policies or his record, he has called me a liar.

Rather than answer his critics, Senator Obama will try to distract you from noticing that he never answers the serious and legitimate questions he has been asked. But let me reply in the plainest terms I know. I don't need lessons about telling the truth to American people. And were I ever to need any improvement in that regard, I probably wouldn't seek advice from a Chicago politician.

My opponent's touchiness every time he is questioned about his record should make us only more concerned. For a guy who's already authored two memoirs, he's not exactly an open book.

It's as if somehow the usual rules don't apply, and where other candidates have to explain themselves and their records, Senator Obama seems to think he is above all that. Whatever the question, whatever the issue, there's always a back story with Senator Obama. All people want to know is: What has this man ever actually accomplished in government? What does he plan for America? In short: Who is the real Barack Obama? But ask such questions and all you get in response is another barrage of angry insults.

Our current economic crisis is a good case in point. What was his actual record in the years before the great economic crisis of our lifetimes?

This crisis started in our housing market in the form of subprime loans that were pushed on people who could not afford them. Bad mortgages were being backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and it was only a matter of time before a contagion of unsustainable debt began to spread. This corruption was encouraged by Democrats in Congress, and abetted by Senator Obama.

Senator Obama has accused me of opposing regulation to avert this crisis. I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed. But the truth is I was the one who called at the time for tighter restrictions on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that could have helped prevent this crisis from happening in the first place.

Senator Obama was silent on the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and his Democratic allies in Congress opposed every effort to rein them in. As recently as September of last year he said that subprime loans had been, quote, "a good idea." Well, Senator Obama, that "good idea" has now plunged this country into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

To hear him talk now, you'd think he'd always opposed the dangerous practices at these institutions. But there is absolutely nothing in his record to suggest he did. He was surely familiar with the people who were creating this problem. The executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have advised him, and he has taken their money for his campaign.

He has received more money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than any other senator in history, with the exception of the chairman of the committee overseeing them. Did he ever talk to the executives at Fannie and Freddie about these reckless loans? Did he ever discuss with them the stronger oversight I proposed?

If Senator Obama is such a champion of financial regulation, why didn't he support these regulations that could have prevented this crisis in the first place? He won't tell you, but you deserve an answer.

Even after he refused to lift a finger to prevent this crisis, when the crisis hit, he was missing in action. He didn't start making calls to round up votes until after the rescue bill failed in the House and the markets crashed. We continue to see the price of delay today as the markets continue to fall.

Today the DOW has fallen below 10,000. And yet, members of his own party said they felt no pressure to vote for the bill. Why didn't Senator Obama work to pass this bill from the start? Why did he let it fail and drag out this crisis for a full week before doing a thing to help pass it?

Again on taxes, we see a difference between what Senator Obama says today, what he said yesterday and what he has actually done. Over the course of this campaign, he has had many different plans to raise your taxes. During the Democratic primary, he promised to double taxes on every American with a dividend or an investment. He promised to raise payroll taxes. He promised higher taxes on electricity.

Now, Senator Obama claims he will give 95 percent of Americans tax relief. He actually promised the same thing when he was running for Senate in Illinois, but once elected he never introduced legislation to do so. Instead, he voted for the Democratic budget resolution that promised to raise taxes on people making just 42,000 dollars a year.

At the time, he even said his vote was intended to get "our nation's priorities back on track." If he's such a defender of the middle class, why did he vote to raise their taxes? Whatever
happened to the tax relief he promised them when he was a candidate for the Senate? And why should middle class Americans trust him to keep promises he has already broken?

Senator Obama and I both have differences with how President Bush has handled the economy. But he thinks taxes are too low, and I think spending is too high. The government's out of control spending has resulted in a weaker dollar, raising the cost of groceries and gasoline, and killing jobs.

I will veto pork barrel legislation and cut wasteful government spending. Senator Obama has a different plan. According to third party estimates, he will increase government spending by over 860 billion dollars. He has denied it, but he has refused to tell you how much he does plan to spend. What is the total of his increased spending? Americans deserve to know just how much more of their money Senator Obama intends to spend, and how much more debt he plans to burden them with.

Senator Obama has also criticized earmark spending, those wasteful pork barrel projects stuck in spending bills behind closed doors. And yet, despite his talk on the campaign trail, his actual record is full of requests for earmark projects. In his three short years in the Senate, he has requested nearly a billion dollars in pork projects for his state -- a million dollars for every day he's been in office.

Far from fighting earmarks in Congress, Senator Obama has been an eager participant in this corrupt system. In one instance, he sought more than 3 million dollars for a new projector at a planetarium in his hometown. Coincidentally, the chairman of that planetarium pledged to raise more than $200,000 for Senator Obama's campaign. We don't know if they ever discussed the money for the planetarium, and no one has asked Senator Obama. But even the appearance of this kind of insider-dealing disgusts Americans. I'm going to put a stop to that, my friends, if I'm President.

I have made every single donor to my campaign publicly available, while Senator Obama has taken in over 200 million dollars from undisclosed sources. We have already seen the potential for fraud because of his refusal to disclose his donors. His campaign had to return $33,000 in illegal foreign funds from Palestinian donors, and this weekend, we found out about another $28,000 in illegal donations. Why has Senator Obama refused to disclose the people who are funding his campaign? Again, the American people deserve answers.

On health care, Senator Obama has been misleading you about my plan to give you more money for health care, and he has been equally misleading about his own plans. He has said his goal is a single payer system where government is in charge of health care and bureaucrats stand between you and your doctor. Under the plan he has proposed, he will fine families that don't have the kind of health insurance that Senator Obama tells them to purchase. He will fine employers who do not offer the health insurance that he thinks they should offer.

What he doesn't say, and what nobody has asked, is how big his fines will be. What he doesn't want you to know is that with a small fine, his plan will encourage companies to just pay the fine, drop existing health care coverage for their employees and leave them with only one real option: government run health care.

Who is the real Senator Obama? Is he the candidate who promises to cut middle class taxes, or the politician who voted to raise middle class taxes? Is he the candidate who talks about regulation or the politician who took money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and turned a blind eye as they ran our economy into a ditch?

Is he the candidate who promises change, or is he the politician who has bought into everything that is wrong with Washington? We can't change the system with someone who's never fought the system.

Washington is on the wrong track and I'm going to set it right. The American people know my record. They know I am going to change Washington, because I've done it before. They know I'm going to reform our broken institutions in Washington and on Wall Street because I've done it before. They know I'm going to deliver relief to the middle class, because that's what I've done.

You don't have to hope that things will change when you vote for me. You know things will change, because I have been fighting for change in Washington my whole career. I've been fighting for you my whole life. That's what I'm going to do as President of the United States. Fight for you and put the government back on the side of the people.

Barack Obama will lie and say anything to get elected. What Barack Obama dismisses as a (deer) "shooter," we in Pennsylvania call a "sportsman" or a "hunter."

Senator Obama has demonstrated once again that he doesn't understand Pennsylvanians - and after suggesting that many of us here "cling" to our religion and guns, he also doesn't seem interested in learning. Although the sportsmen community knows Barack Obama is no friend, his comments reinforce the critical need for hunters, anglers and 2nd Amendment supporters to defend our traditions and mobilize behind our allies John McCain and Sarah Palin.

We need to work together and get the message out there because the media is defintely not going to do it for us. I have also copied a recently circulated memo from our National HQ about health care as Barack Obama continues to spread decetful information about the McCain plan.

2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people's health insurance coverage -- they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska -- she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it's not a windfall profits tax.

9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO's International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation -- he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where John McCain has been proven right.

12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won't pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

I'm very much interested in getting people to come to Beaver County, PA (and parts of Allegheny County) to help campaign for John and Sarah, as well as Melissa Hart, who's running for Congress against Obama supporter Jason Altmire. I hope all our 4th CD candidates will be at the 10 a.m. orientation this Saturday in Beaver Falls.

Also, I hope as many people as possible at least put in an appearance at the October 7 meeting at 7 p.m. in Beaver Falls High cafeteria. It's a meeting for volunteers, and I have no idea if they'll be 10 people there or 100, but I'm doing everything I can to make it nearer 100 than 10. We are getting very good response to Melissa's candidacy in the Beaver office -- maybe to be expected, but I'd say one-out-of-five (more?) of the people coming in are Democrats. I'm asking everyone I see to commit to Melissa, and 9-out-of-10 are doing just that.

I'm tying her campaign to that of John and Sarah.

I'm going to ask the people at Geneva College, students, faculty, and others to do a lot -- if they want good candidates, pro-life candidates, to win. Keep your chins up everyone; I expect Sarah to do a great job tonight.

In our "surveys" in Beaver County, we're finding that many voters remain uncertain -- and undecided -- about whom to vote for. This is a wonderful opportunity for us.I am trying my darndest to get volunteers from out-of-state to campaign for people, like Melissa, Toni, Craig, Marina, Lou, Tom, and Bill, who are supportive of McCain-Palin.

I hope everyone will open his or her hearts -- and, if possible, their homes -- to the out-of-staters. Forty-five former Hillary Supporters (mostly) are taking a bus to the Philly suburbs (and Northeast Philly, I believe) to go door-to-door for John and Sarah. I hope our great candidates in the Philly area will greet them and work with them.

Matt Hogue and Pennsylvania Corruption

Matt Hogue, a member of the Allegheny County Democratic "Executive" Committee wrote asking why I don't print his comments. I hadn't even known he'd made any comments, but I took the opportunity to tell him what I thought of him and his fellow western PA Democrats.

Matt, my blog is . . . my blog. If you send comments to me via e-mail, I will read and consider them for inclusion in the blogs. Truth be told, I have been too busy to even read comments, let alone "approve" them. Also, most of the comments I received from liberals were robotic talking points and did not advance any form of debate.

Frankly, my long-term purpose in political life is to put people like you and your fellow Democrats out of business. Any approach that helps in that process is one I will follow.

However, if you or any Democrat in this area ever wants to debate any issues in public, I will show up, even if the audience consists mainly of Obama-bots. I have been on KDKA-TV and other venues with liberal Democrats, and I relish the experience. I'm on the Clintons4McCain Blog Talk Radio program each Saturday (including today) and people often call in Some of them are Obama-bots.

From time to time, I have supported Democrats in state races. I supported Sean Ramalley prior to his criminal indictment. I did not support former Democratic House power Mike Veon, because I perceived, rightly, that he was criminal much loved by Democrats who lacked a fundamental sense of right and wrong.

Many Democrats, including Sean unfortunately, knew what was going on, but because they valued Party over state and country, they did nothing. You should be discussing such issues, but I fear you are not.

I fear most Democrats have too much in common with crooks like Frank Gigliotti, Pete DeFazio (and his underlings), Gigi Sullivan, Tawanda Carlyle, Cyril Wecht, Ben Woods, Jason Altmire, Cyril Wecht, Bill DeWeese, Mrs. Lavalle, and numerous others whose attitudes resemble Frank's "F---k the public." Thus, their comments (on my blog or elsewhere) reflect a basic dishonesty and disingenuousness.

I'd be happy to hear that you don't fit into that category. I don't know you well enough to make a judgment. However, I feel the Allegheny County Democratic Committee and those it supports are GENERALLY involved in criminal endeavors designed to fleece the public. I believe you and your Committee have done great damage to this region.

I will be writing soon on Ed Rendell's use of $750,000 million in "walking around money" in 2006. You know, and I know, this is basically vote-buying in African-American areas. If you have comments on that subject, e-mail them to me and I will put them up on the Pennsylvania for McCain blog.

America's Economy is Basically Fine

Recently, John McCain said America's economic "fundamentals are good." Of course, Barack Obama and his horde of know-nothings immediately rushed out with a commercial indicating that McCain must be clueless because he was not presenting the kind of hysterical message we were hearing on CNN and MSNBC. As the article by Max Boot (an excerpt below) shows, what McCain said was factually (key word) correct.

Of course, in the world of BHO and David Axelrod, little matters like truth count for nothing -- and demagoguery counts for everything.

Indeed, the World Economic Forum has ranked the United States as the world's most competitive economy for the last two years. (The new survey comes out next month.) Its statistics show that per-capita gross domestic product in the U.S. consistently has grown faster than in other developed economies since 1980.

Looking deeper at the causes of American competitiveness shows that we score especially strongly not only in domestic market size (No. 1 in the world) but also in such areas as time required to start a business (No. 3), venture capital availability (No. 1), the cost of firing an employee (No. 1), ownership of personal computers (No. 2), university/industry research collaboration (No. 1) and quality of scientific research institutions (No. 2).

We have outstanding news to pass along from our NoBama Mission Blogger friends at the Wake Up America BLOG: Barack Obama's campaign is abandoning their efforts in the state of North Dakota, since it is clear the state will now go for the McCain/Palin ticket. Just one month ago polls had showed the race in North Dakota a dead heat. Now, McCain/Palin enjoy a double digit lead.

The collapse of the Obama campaign in North Dakota mirrors a similar trend in Montana. Obama's campaign has also abandoned their efforts in Georgia and Alaska. In the primaries, Obama won those three states.

Steve adds: look for the next state Obama abandons to be a big one, North Carolina, where he won the Democratic Primary against Hillary Clinton but is now far behind. He can't afford to give up on Ohio, but it looking more and more like a state he can't win. Recent polls have shown his once-big leads in New York and New Jersey to be dropping like rocks.

I'll soon have a list -- a long one -- of states that now look unwinnable by Obama, including nearly every state in the American South. Trends are good for McCain/Palin in Colorado, Virginia and Florida, although the battle in those states will go on for some time, as Obama pours huge quantities of money into them.

Look for voters in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and -- perhaps -- New Jersey to see a lot of Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin.

When I've asked people in Beaver County, PA, where I live (yep, we're those God-loving, gun-toting folks that Barack despises), over the phone to volunteer their time for the campaign, they almost never do. When I ask them, face-to-face, how often do they volunteer? So far, always.

At the Beaver, PA GOP headquarters yesterday -- and "Beaver" differs from "Beaver Falls," where Joe Namath grew up, three women volunteered -- Dee Byers, Darlene Cutlip, and Sandra Boyde. Actually, Dee's husband volunteered her, which as a long-time husband myself, I told him could be risky business. Did I sign her up? Of course. "In love, war, and politics, all is fair."

The volunteer I'd like to highlight is Sandra Boyde, who lives near the Ohio line. She mentioned she had converted various relatives, including in-laws, into rabid supporters of McCain-Palin, and she was prepared to do the same with friends and neighbors. She's pretty, smart, and funny.

Then, I heard her talking to the volunteer coordinator ("Kyle," a gal Kyle, not a guy Kyle). She mentioned that she might have trouble doing a lot of door-to-door work because she was undergoing chemotherapy.

She told me she had experienced a recurrence of her cancer, which had first surfaced six-and-a-half years before.Sandra is volunteering to make phone calls to voters, probably a whole lot of calls. She has children who do football and all the other things we wish WE were doing. She's not too tired to reach out to voters, to be an essential part of the ground game. Of great interest to me, she's a great deal like Sarah Palin, a person of real courage -- fearless and even at peace with the hand she's been dealt.

Most people who make calls, offer yard signs, and bang on their neighbor's doors probably don't do so because they're so much fun They do these things because the "other guy" (Obama) is doing it. If we don't do it better than he, we probably will lose.

If a person like Sandra accepted losses easily, she wouldn't have been in the Beaver, PA, GOP office offering to help. She's NOT sitting around bemoaning her fate. Instead, in a small way, she's making history.How critical is Beaver County?

If PA is a battleground state -- and it is -- then are Ground Zero. There's a Democratic voter registration edge, but there are early signs that we could win big here. Our surveys -- and we're not Gallup -- show McCain could win by two-to-one.

The "Sarah Palin Effect" (remember God? remember guns?) is off-the-chart. When Gov. Sarah appears here, as she will, the multitudes will gather.

You may have to be persistent to get the attention of campaign people to guide you in the right direction. You presumably will have to endure the "Great Yard Sign Shortage of 2008."Sadly, political campaigns are nick-of-time, hit-and-miss events. They are not well-oiled machines. They are, "Oops, didn't anybody ever put oil in this thing?"

So, volunteer on JohnMcCain.com. Call up your local McCain office. If you don't have a local McCain office, create one. If you wait for orders from on high, you may end up waiting unto eternity.A good step is to call up the local Republican office. If you're a Democrat or Independent, call anyway. Trust me, you will find that Republicans are among the most harmless of God's creature.

Why VOLUNTEERS have to be persistent in volunteering is one of the riddles of the universe. But tough times demand tough people, much like Sandra, whom I met today and who, with her family, will now be friends for life. I don't know exactly what her "stands" are on the "issues." I don't exactly care either.

OBAMA'S POLITICS OF TRIBAL IDENTITY

Apparently, about 90% of American Blacks are ready to vote for Barack Obama, a politician who would do nothing to lead them out of poverty, miseducation, and hopelessness. For most punds and observers, that's an article of faith: that Blacks will waste their votes once again on a bogus-racial Messiah, Obama. Read on . . .

"During decades of researching racial and ethnic groups in countries around the world-- with special attention to those who began in poverty and then rose to prosperity-- I have yet to find one so preoccupied with tribalistic identity as to want to maintain solidarity with all members of their group, regardless of what they do or how they do it.

"Any group that rises has to have norms, and that means repudiating those who violate those norms, if you are serious. Blind tribalism means letting the lowest common denominator determine the norms and the fate of the whole group.

"There was a time when most blacks, like most of the Irish or the Jews, understood this common sense. But that was before the romanticizing of identity took over, beginning in the 1960s.

"Back in 19th century America, the Catholic Church took on the task of changing the behavior of the poverty-stricken Irish immigrants, in order to prepare them to rise in American society. As this transformation succeeded, employers' signs that said "No Irish Need Apply" began to disappear in the 20th century.

"The Jewish community likewise made many efforts to change the behavior of immigrants from Eastern Europe, to enable them to better fit into American society-- and to rise in that society.

"The Urban League and other black uplift groups made similar efforts to prepare their fellow blacks to rise in American society. In fact, those efforts began to pay off in dramatic reductions in poverty among blacks, even before the civil rights laws of the 1960s.

"The unanswered question is why an approach with a proven track record, not only in American society but in various other countries around the world, has been superseded by a philosophy of tribal identity over-riding issues of behavior and performance.

"Part of the problem is the "multicultural" ideology that says all cultures are equally valid. It is hard even to know what that means, much less take it seriously as a guide to living in the real world.

"Will time and energy spent on rap music and wearing low-riding baggy pants like guys in prison-- as badges of identity-- provide as good a future for young people as learning math, computers and the English language?

"Romantic self-indulgence and self-deception are things that some people can afford when they reach the point where they can afford identity angst. But millions of other people will remain mired in poverty if they believe such notions."

WHY THE CLINTONS DESPISE OBAMA

Can Bill Clinton support Obama? He certainly can PRETEND to do so. But he can't -- in good conscience -- support a man who although with his surrogates and media toadies labeled his wife a warmonger, a liar, and a racist. He especially can't endorse a man who, along with his top advisers, branded Bill Clinton himself a racist. Seemingly, just about anything is possible in politics, but some things that are possible are not plausible -- such as forgiving a former opponent for despicable conduct.

The following CNN story suggests why you should take with a grain of salt any suggestion of an endorsement of Obama by the Clintons. A man who plays the worst form of racial politics, Obama, should not be a serious candidate for President.

Bill Clinton: Obama camp 'played the race card on me'

After the phone interview with Delaware radio station WHYY Monday night, a stray comment of his on the issue was also recorded before he hung up: “I don’t think I should take any s*** from anybody on that, do you?”

The former president had been asked whether his remarks comparing Obama’s strong showing in South Carolina to that of Jesse Jackson in 1988 had been a mistake given their impact on his wife Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

“No, I think that they played the race card on me,” said Clinton, “and we now know from memos from the campaign and everything that they planned to do it all along.”

“We were talking about South Carolina political history and this was used out of context and twisted for political purposes by the Obama campaign to try to breed resentment elsewhere. And you know, do I regret saying it? No. Do I regret that it was used that way? I certainly do. But you really got to go some to try to portray me as a racist.”

He added that the way Obama’s campaign had reacted was “disrespectful to Jesse Jackson” and that the former presidential candidate had told him he was not offended, and that “we all know what’s going on."

UPDATE: At a Pittsburgh press availability,Obama was asked about Clinton's charge that his campaign had drawn up plans to use 'the race card.'

Hold on a second,’’ he said. “So former President Clinton dismissed my victory in South Carolina as being similar to Jesse Jackson and he is suggesting that somehow I had something to do with it? You better ask him what he meant by that. I have no idea what he meant. These were words that came out of his mouth. Not words that came out of mine.’"

CAN MCCAIN REALLY WIN PA?

Salena Zito's Tribune-Review article below (in boldface) is an on-target view of Pennsylvania. We also have the opportunity to do well in other communities, including Beaver County where I live, Butler County, Mercer, and Crawford (north and west of Pittsburgh). I don't think McCain will "have to let the money run" in PA. Bucks County (southeastern PA) is a key as Zito suggests. Strong congressional candidates in PA, especially Tom Manion againt Patrick Murphy and Melissa Hart against Jason Altmire, will help McCain. In Beaver County, which Hillary won by 28,000 to 12,000, we're already doing better than we imagined. Here, there are a large number of "undecided" voters, almost all of them Democrats contemplating a vote for McCain-Palin. The "Black issue" is a factor (Bradley Effect) but not as big a one as Zito (and Rendell) suggest. Obama described those of us in Western Pennsylvania as people who "cling" to their God and their Guns. We (like Gov. Palin) don't regard those characteristics as failings. He will live to eat those remarks.

Can McCain Really Win Pennsylvania?By Salena Zito, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

The intelligent question thrown out among strategists for both campaigns is, can John McCain really win Pennsylvania?

Really win it, not pretend to go for it, as Republicans did in 2004, all the while closing the deal in Ohio when no one was looking.

The last Republican presidential candidate to win Pennsylvania was George H.W. Bush, in 1988 -- a win preceded by two Reagans but followed by two Clintons, a Gore and a Kerry. The Kerry win was narrower than the others, however.

Since this year's Pennsylvania primaries, many people have been schooled on the mechanics of how Democrats win this state. Call it the "Rendell rule": Stack up high numbers in the Philly collar counties, hold the losses to a minimum in the other 60, and try to win Allegheny for good measure.

Can Barack Obama pull off a Rendell?

Villanova University political science professor Bob Maranto says political undercurrents are playing against him. "This is an old state, demographically, and some older white voters will be reluctant to vote for a black candidate," he explains, "but there is something more at work. Even if they call themselves independents, most voters more or less automatically vote either Democratic or Republican."

Maranto calculates that the 20 percent or so of voters who really are up for grabs will use information about a candidate's background to make assumptions about his policy views.

Pennsylvanians don't see McCain in the "failed Bush policies" category by which Democrats try to define him. Instead, they see a war hero, a brand that resonates in the blue-collar areas where their unions are trying to persuade them otherwise.

"He is a guy you can depend on," said Tom Miller, 54, of Lancaster, a registered Democrat who is very comfortable voting for McCain. "He has had no problem bucking his own party and he does not ask me to make sacrifices that he isn't willing to make."

Add the stereotypes that some voters hold about black candidates and Obama dilutes the Rendell rule.

So, where can McCain offset traditional Democrat voting blocs?

In Allegheny, Bucks and Chester counties, where a large number of those voters live.
To win Allegheny, McCain must win the entire South Hills area minus Mt. Lebanon. He also must win the new suburban areas around the airport, as well as the Mon Valley, where poorer working white voters live. He can easily sweep the North Hills as well as the small river towns.

Achieve that, and McCain offsets Pittsburgh's black and elite-liberal numbers.

McCain also must win Bucks County, where he should have Sarah Palin establish residency in the large churches in the northern half while he camps out in southern Bucks.

Chester County will be the hardest. McCain won't win West Chester, but the rest of the county -- a one-time Republican stronghold -- is persuadable.

All three counties have healthy-sized veterans populaces, with lots of socially conservative labor-Catholic Democrats -- all voters that professor Maranto views as weaknesses for Obama.

Democrat analyst Larry Ceisler admits problems exist for Obama in counties like Washington, Beaver and Fayette, but he is not quite sold on the idea that McCain can win Allegheny, Chester and Bucks.

The unknown factor in Obama's favor is the latest statewide voter-registration number. Obama state director Craig Schirmer issued a statement last week touting 1 million-plus more registered Democrats than Republicans, double the lead of 2004.

Perhaps the bigger argument is that if McCain is posting Bush 2004 poll numbers in Pennsylvania in the waning days of this election, it indicates that Ohio, Indiana and Michigan are already lost to Obama. Pennsylvania is just that small percentage point more Democrat than her Rust-Belt sisters.

University of Virginia political science professor Larry Sabato says his tentative conclusion is that McCain should not allow the money to run in Pennsylvania unless he has unlimited resources, and instead should look west. His argument: If McCain is close in Pennsylvania, then he already is well above 300 Electoral College votes and won't need it to win.

I haven't forgotten about my Pennsylvania congressional races. The tremendous energy in the McCain Campaign -- and his real chance of winning the Keystone State in particular and the overall election in "general" -- have led to some exciting possibilities. Melissa Hart is now a slight favorite in her race against Jason Altmire. Lou Barletta could win handily against his thoroughly corrupt opponent, Paul Kanjorski.

Tom Manion could move a sliver ahead of Patrick Murphy. Candidates like Craig Williams (against Sestak), Toni Gilhooley (against Holden), and even Bill Russell (against the despicable Murtha) have something they didn't before: a chance to win. A lot of the thanks should go to Gov. Sarah Palin. Alaska is nowhere near Pennsylvania, but Gov. Sarah's very near to our hearts. Yeah, she clings to God and guns, family and country -- just like we do.

HILLARY CLINTON TO REPLACE JOE BIDEN?

I've been the main voice on the Internet discussing the story that Hillary Clinton -- early in October, it appears -- would replace Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket. I stand by this revelation because I believe it's true. The Houston Post-Chronicle recently printed a story suggesting such a "V-P Switcheroo" could be coming.

Remember that famous Friday a.m. (look back a couple of weeks) when I said at 2 a.m. that Sen. McCain would name Gov. Sarah Palin as his V-P? Many people, including some good friends, said I "must be mistaken." It must be Mitt Romney or Tim Pawlenty, right?

At 11 a.m. on Friday when it was clear the not-so-gentle lady from Alaska, Sarah, would get the nod, many members of the media were angry. Why hadn't anyone told them? Well, I told them. My view of the MSM is that it consists mostly of incompetents who couldn't break an egg let alone a real story.

One development you've been hearing little if anything about is the effect Sarah Palin's tremendous popularity is having on congressional races. Because of America's love affair with Sarah, many Obama Democrats are now afraid they will lose their seats. That has added to the desperation in the ranks of the Party's far-left wing.

Many of the members of Congress most worried are those who truly need their "job" and have been on the federal dole for many decades. Outside the comfy halls of Congress, a lot of these low-talent people would essentially be unemployable.

Thus, they despise Sarah Palin because she threatens their livelihoods. So, look for a growing number of calls for Obama to: (1) "get tougher" -- to sling more mud and be more negative than he already is; (2) get rid of Biden and replace him with Senator Clinton (or perhaps even someone else).

I hope all the thousands of bloggers and other onliners who are supporting McCain-Palin will highlight the "Hillary" story. That's exactly what Obama, Axelrod, Brazille, and Dean don't want you to do. Continued discussion will shed light on developments the Obama Campaign would rather spring on Americans at the last moment.

Note: If you start hearing more stories, as we did last week, of Senator Biden's "health issues" (in actuality, he really doesn't have any), you will know the time is drawing nigh for Joe to exit Left.

My predictions for the Oct. 2 V-P debate (if Joe makes it that far)? Sarah will mop the floor with him. His antics and windbag nature will turn off a huge number of women voters. Sarah will continue to look more "presidential" than either Obama or Biden.

In the 1972 presidential election, George McGovern named as his V-P pick Senator Thomas Eagleton (a fine man, by the way). Then, it came out that Eagleton had once undergone electro-shock treatments for depression. Calls came in from Party leaders to get Eagleton off the ticket.Senator McGovern famously said he was behind Eagleton "100% -- no, 1,000 percent."

The next day McGovern dumped Eagleton, replacing him with Sargent Shriver (JFK's brother-in-law).

In November, 1972, McGovern lost 49 states.Keep in mind the date October 5 (three days after the debate) :-)

The following letter is a from an Alaskan bush pilot and hunting guide, Butch King. His web link is at the bottom of this page. He and his wife, Kathy, know Gov. Sarah Palin well. This is not material you're going to be reading elsewhere as the MSM goes busily about trying to "dig up dirt" on this outstanding American woman.

Subject: Who is Sarah?

Here is the straight scoop from an in-person observer. What would happen if she got the 3am call that the President was dead? Past experience indicates she'd clean house in Washington. Would that be a bad thing?

We are having a great week on Silvers here at Wildman Lodge, You know, I don't often get very political, but recently many of our friends are asking us "Who is Sarah Palin?"

Of course, as Alaskans, Kathy [his wife] and I are extremely proud of her. We just want to let you know that Sarah “Barracuda" Palin is a straight shooting, hard charging, get it done gal. She knows when to listen, how to analyze the facts and how to make a decision, then implement the plan. She doesn't do a poll before jumping in with both feet like too many of the Washington types.

She has little legislative experience because she has always held the EXECUTIVE position; in private life, as mayor of Anchorage’s largest bedroom community or more recently as Governor of our State. She is a smart, attractive home-grown Alaska girl with excellent moral and family values. She can see what needs to be done and does not hesitate to get it done.

One of our State's major problems is that its Capital is in Juneau, 500 miles from the nearest road and 800 air miles from the population base which are Anchorage, Wasilla and Fairbanks. Our legislature and most of the State government is in Juneau and they ALL behave like a bunch of freshmen in a college town. It has been this way since Statehood in 1959.

When Sarah moved to Juneau, so did accountability and responsibility. When the oil revenue started flowing and a barrel of North Slope Crude hit $23.00, these people began spending money like drunken sailors. You can only imagine what was happening when oil hit $100.00 a barrel, about the time Sarah took command.

My wife Kathy has first-hand experience with this fiasco, as her father and also her ex-husband were Alaska Legislators who served in Juneau as Senators, Senate President, or members of the State House for a combined period spanning nearly three decades.

About the time Sarah took the HELM as Governor of Alaska, about half of the State legislature was in the pocket of big oil companies or contractors doing big projects for Native Corporations around Alaska, all funded by State oil revenue. Alaska government was nothing but a good old boys club riding the perpetual wave of prosperity. This filtered down from the legislature, through the Department of Natural Resources, Department of Labor and even spilled in to the Public Safety who are supposed to "preserve and protect".

When Sarah walked into the Governor's Mansion, she promptly dismissed the State Trooper detachment assigned to Governor and had her and her husband's gun case brought in from Wasilla. Then, she got rid of the former Governor's STATE Jet and told legislators that there were no more free rides, they would have to fly Alaska Airlines, just like her and her family if they wanted to travel.

Next came the nut cutting (the "Barracuda" part) the heads that rolled were too numerous to name, but when Sarah finished cleaning house, a number of our legislators ended up in jail on corruption charges, or tendered their resignations along with numerous department heads and those who have been riding the gravy train for way too long, AND THEN SHE HAD LUNCH. By the end of the day, Sarah Palin had saved the people of Alaska millions and has not yet slowed down.

She has truly brought CHANGE to Juneau . I personally know several persons in the private sector in Alaska that hold her in high esteem. She surrounds herself with smart people, many from my hometown of Anchorage , she listens to them but makes her own decisions. Sarah
Palin is a no B.S. politician. It is refreshing that there is such thing anymore.

You want to talk about CHANGE? You should see a before and after picture of the State government in Alaska . That's CHANGE! Sarah will bring a number of things to the election. I am sure she will appeal to many voters who otherwise could have gone the other direction
on election day. The conservative bloc will not be for Barack. We have their vote.

We need what Sarah will bring, first to the election and second, what she will bring to Washington D.C. McCain has been advised well, Let's just hope the American people can get the straight scoop on her in the weeks ahead.

This is just the opinion of one Alaska Bush Pilot and Guide, who pays attention to national politics, watches the news and is deathly afraid of the direction our nation isheaded. I guarantee that if Sarah gets a chance to dig her spurs into the flanks of the liberal Washington types, they will know that she is in the saddle.

Williams has been a strong proponent of Palin for Vice President and met with her privately one-on-one at the National Governor’s Association conference in Philadelphia this summer and again during his trip to Alaska to promote energy independence.

“A maverick for reform has picked a maverick for reform as his running mate,” said Williams. “She is committed to good government and ran as a reform candidate for Governor of Alaska in 2006, defeating an incumbent of her own party in the primary. Her willingness to stand up to the political establishment – even the leadership of her own party – is very much in the mold of John McCain.”

On the Plain choice: I had a short post up at 2:30 a.m. that said I had information (from Sharon and one other) that Gov. Palin and her two teen-age daughters and perhaps others had flown from Anchorage to Dayton, where she would be named Friday as McCain's running mate. The story came from people who put two-and-two together, and the media was still falling all over itself at 11 a.m. this morning.

Charles Krauthammer said at 11 McCain should choose Fred Thompson. Good God!

At that point, I said to my wife we already had enough old white guys (Biden, McCain) and we needed a woman, preferably Sarah . I went to sleep Friday morning believing it was Sarah and woke up to her picture on the screen on FOX (and others).

I never bought the Campaign's decoy statement that, well, everybody on the list was flying in (Romney, Pawlenty, Huckabee, the Easter Bunny, Peter Rabbit). It made no sense, but many reporters bought it. Did they believe McCain was going to have a parade of also-rans?

The national media -- generally a bunch of lazy oafs -- was mad on Friday because nobody told them first. Charles Cameron of FOX was the only one early this a.m. who did a process of elimination and came up with Sarah. Then, the other people at FOX and CNN (and the idiots at MSNBC) dropped the ball.

They thought it couldn't be Sarah because she wasn't on their list . . . and so how could he dare to nominate this (wonderful) woman they knew nothing about. Amazing.

When she gave the speech -- she had given others the media had ignored -- everyone knew immediately "how" McCain could select her. With the speech and that amazing family -- the working-class husband, the beautiful, unintimidated children -- Sarah blew everyone out of the water.

Gee, where's she been?" Good question. Sometimes the very best things are invisible even though they're right in front of us.

Sarah is Barack Obama's worst nightmare. She is an ethical person. She is extremely tough physically, psychologically, and spiritually. She will beat Biden up very badly. He's a windbag, and she's a breath of fresh air.

Biden got 9,000 votes in the Primary. Mrs. Clinton got 18 million. Go figure.

Last night at about 2:45 a.m., this blog broke the news (with help from Sharon Caliendo in Oklahoma) that John McCain would name Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to his ticket. I've been writing on -- and advocating -- Sarah for V-P for a year-and-a-half. When I discovered that Sarah was in fact reading the blog posts about her, I started "talking directly" to her. At one point, I observed that she was the ultimate "Daughter of Alaska." Then, I said, "But now, Sarah you belong to America." I got that right.

Republicans including, I imagine, Sen. McCain himself are asking these questions about his selection of a vice presidential candidate.Ideally, a presidential candidate wants a running mate who will help him or her win the election, and (maybe) to govern afterwards. But most will settle for a veep who isn't a drag on the ticket, as Dan Quayle was for the first President Bush.

Traditionally, a presidential nominee has chosen a running mate to balance the ticket
geographically, or to appease a faction of the party. The most successful example of this was when John F. Kennedy picked Lyndon Johnson, though neither liked the other, and LBJ joined the ticket only because he thought Kennedy would lose.Bill Clinton broke with this tradition when he chose another young (purported) moderate from a neighboring southern state. By picking Al Gore, he hoped to reinforce his campaign theme of generational change.

Which way will Sen. McCain go?

The potential running mates most often discussed have downsides nearly as great as their upsides. Gov. Tim Pawlenty helps only in Minnesota, and not enough, according to current polls, to make a difference there. Sen. McCain's friend Sen. Joe Lieberman would bring in some moderate Democrats, but could further antagonize conservatives already suspicious of Sen. McCain.

Gov. Romney would have little appeal to working class whites unhappy with Sen. Obama, and evangelicals fret about that Mormon thing. A Huckabee nomination would irritate economic and foreign policy conservatives as much as it would please evangelicals.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is a rising star. But he's only 36, and he's been governor for less than a year.There is one potential running mate who has virtually no down side. Those conservatives who've heard of her were delighted to learn that McCain advance man Arthur Culvahouse was in Alaska recently, because they surmised he could only be there to discuss the vice presidential nomination with Gov. Sarah Palin.

At 44, Sarah Louise Heath Palin is both the youngest and the first female governor in Alaska's relatively brief history as a state. She's also the most popular governor in America, with an approval rating that has bounced around 90 percent.

This is due partly to her personal qualities. When she was leading her underdog Wasilla high school basketball team to the state championship in 1982, her teammates called her "Sarah Barracuda" because of her fierce competitiveness.Two years later, when she won the "Miss Wasilla" beauty pageant, she was also voted "Miss Congeniality" by the other contestants.Sarah Barracuda. Miss Congeniality.

Fire and nice.

A happily married mother of five who is still drop dead gorgeous. And smart to boot.But it's mostly because she's been a crackerjack governor, a strong fiscal conservative and a ferocious fighter of corruption, especially in her own party.Ms. Palin touches other conservative bases, some of which Sen. McCain has been accused of rounding.

Track, her eldest son, enlisted in the Army last Sept. 11. She's a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association who hunts, fishes and runs marathons. A regular churchgoer, she's staunchly pro-life. Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal said Sen. McCain should run against a corrupt, do-nothing Congress, a la Harry Truman.

If he should choose to do so, Gov. Palin would make an excellent partner "The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who have crossed Sarah," pollster Dave Dittman told the Weekly Standard's Fred Barnes.

Sen. Barack Obama's support has plunged recently among white women. Many Hillary Clinton supporters accuse him -- I think unfairly -- of being sexist. Having Sarah Palin on the ticket could help Sen. McCain appeal to these disgruntled Democrats.Running mates usually aren't named until the convention.

But if Sen. McCain should name Gov. Palin earlier, it would give America more time to get to know this extraordinary woman. And because she's at least a dozen feature stories waiting to be written, she could help him dominate the news between now and the conventions.Another reason for selecting Sarah Palin early would be to force Barack Obama to make a mistake.

He'd have to rule out choosing someone like Virginia Sen. Jim Webb as his running mate, for fear of exacerbating charges of sexism. And if he chose a woman other than Hillary, the impression Democrats are wimpy would be intensified.

In the "NoBama" effort, we are getting a tremendous number of requests (thousands!) from people, especially disaffected Democrats, who want to help John McCain -- and need to know what to do next. Bloggers should consider reprinting this on their own sites.

You might emphasize McCain's experience and, if you were a Hillary backer, highlight Mrs. Clinton's statement that she and McCain had "a lifetime of experience" and BHO had only "a speech he delivered in 2002." You can also use President Clinton's statement that John McCain "has given everything he could to his country -- except his life."

Frankly, John McCain is an authentic American hero -- and Barack Obama is a classic Chicago politician. 'Nough said.

Hillary Clinton is a closet McCain Supporter. Whom do you really believe she will vote for on November 4? Senator Clinton, a long-time admirer of John McCain, has repeatedly said she believes Senator Obama is not ready to for the presidency because he lacks the experience necessary to lead. She said,"In this election we need a nominee who can pass the Commander in Chief test. ... Senator McCain will bring a time of experience to the campaign. I will bring a lifetime of experience and Senator Obama will bring a speech he gave in 2002. I think that is a significant difference."

Dear Friends: I wrote the following to "Athena," a Hillary Supporter (and apparently, a FORMER Democrat) who is now backing John McCain. She does not believe the Democratic Party is going to be reformed in her lifetime. She is dead right.

I hope Republican candidates in all states will say something similar to what I did to Athena. THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEM AS INDIVIDUALS. THEY WANT THEIR VOTE BUT NOT THEIR INPUT.

Candidates like Steve Sauerberg (Illinois, against Dick Durbin) and Jeff Beatty (Massachusetts, against John Kerry) must provide some hard truths to Democrats in their state. If the truth hurts, so be it. Truth is always superior to fantasies and illusions.

I'm going around telling people to LEAVE the Democrat Party, to become independents or Republicans. To my amazement, a good many of them are, including Athena. If Steve and Jeff can convince many Democrats to do the same, they will win. If they don't, they will lose. Letter to Athena follows:

Athena, I'll work with you anyway you want. Heck, you can have a kidney if you need one!

She won my county (Beaver, home of Joe Namath and Mike Ditka) by 28,000 to 12,000. All my relatives voted for her. Jason Altmire got $10,000 from Barack Obama (see dncreform). Guess who Jason Altmire is backing?

Patrick Murphy, congressman and beloved of Moveon, which HATES HRC has a district that also went for Hillary by two-to-one. He got $18,000 from BHO. He was one of the first in the country to back Obama.

They believe Democrats in PA are stupid. They believe they will get away with it, and they probably will. PA Dems (some) believe JFK is still running things. But the issues confronting this country are life-and-death, and it's no longer okay for people to vote like robots.

The Democratic Party has become a refuge for people who are cynical, unpatriotic, and committed to a form of socialism that's little more than vote-buying. The America the Democrats see has more in common with Hugo Chavez than with George Washington or John F. Kennedy.

It ticks me off. It almost breaks my heart.

Hillary's colleagues in the Senate deserted her in droves. WV went for Hillary by a huge margin, but good ole Jay Rockefeller backed Obama. Bob Casey did the same thing in Pennsylvania.

As I said, who exactly is going to reform the Democratic Party? It's much, much worse than people think. There's contempt for the voters.

How could HRC ever have gotten the nomination when states voted massively for her and all the SDs (Massachusetts, esp.) went for Obama. Those facts make Hillary's speech in Denver all the more disgraceful. Thankfully, her manic, self-aborbed campaign is finally over. Hopefully, she'll spend her free time working on character issues, the ones that led her to choose Party over Country.

There, Athena, you got me wound up. Congrats for you on McCain. He's an American hero and an honorable man -- and Obama isn't.

Democrat's Universal Health-Care Scam

Hilary's health care plan and Barack's plan are both scams. They'll drive up the cost of health care and drive down the quality of care. That's not the way they present their cockamamy schemes/scams.

I just told a PUMA ("Party Unity My A-s") from GA that's on board with McCain that it is always a bad idea to look at any politician as perfect or anything close to perfect. They all have strengths and weaknesses. Just saying that should not cause people (Hillaryites) to break into tears or a fit of anger (you don't do either).

I disagree with Hillary's approach to health care, and it's not because I don't believe everyone shouldn't have health care. I'll send you an article I read in The Economist, and it talks about how millions of Americans are going overseas (India, Southeast Asia, South America) to GOOD hospitals, better than most here, to get care that sometimes costs one-fifth as much. It is a form of early competition that is driving down prices a little in the U.S.

Health care in the U.S. COSTS TOO MUCH. My wife suffered a stroke in 1991, and it has been a challenge to say the least. (She's on Medicare as well as Medicare prescription drug.) She takes many medications. We save $800 a year by getting prescription drugs by mail order -- same drugs, no co-payment (except for one drug), delivered right to our door.

Almost everybody you see going to the pharmacy could save significant money. But they don't because "the insurance pays for it all." Well, the insurance fairy doesn't just dole out money. The costs come out of people's pockets -- yours and mine.

Sharon, you didn't hear Hillary (or Obama) tell you about anything I just mentioned. I'm talking about getting health costs down by tens of billions, but there is no real incentive for people to do what WE (wife and I) DO. Also, there is a lot of fraud in Medicare, but nobody really wants to stop it.

I believe John McCain will do these things. If they aren't done and we just declare "universal health care," there will be a financial and health care emergency soon after.

Why are big hospitals (Obama's wife worked at one) pouring money into Obama's campaign? Because they think they'll make less money under him? Why can't somebody like me appear at a Town Hall with Obama (or Hillary) and discuss the fact that I just showed how to save the people in the U.S., say, $50 billion a year? Let me send more people overseas to get GOOD care (until U.S. hospitals drop their prices), and I'll get those savings up to $150 billion. And I'm not even running for anything.

Oh, we couldn't do what I just suggested about a real debate. We need a bunch of adoring cheerleaders in the audience instead.

Who's going to pay for the new doctors, nurses, technicians, supplies, and facilities we need for universal health care? You are, not the insurance fairy -- or "the government," which will pay by using your money. And what will drive costs down? Nothing.

If you are sick and need good treatment under universal care, will you get it? Do they in Canada? No, they don't. They wait years for treatment you would get here in a week.

Does John McCain know these things? I believe he does. In fact, even a dimwit like Obama knows the score, but he pretends not to. It's much easier to blame everything on George Bush.

I do wish I were the nominee for President. Like Reagan, I would demand that I get to take a nap after lunch everyday. :-) Thanks for replying.

Vets for Freedom Are Saying Yes to the Surge, NO to Obama

DENVER — The conservative group Vets for Freedom is launching a $1.1 million ad buy during the Democratic National Convention, using video of Iraq war veterans to take Barack Obama to task for not giving the surge policy sufficient credit for improvement in battleground conditions.

The 30-second spot, called “I Am the Surge,” features three Iraq war veterans who served in the surge of U.S. military forces into Iraq: Gabriel Herrera, David Thul and Travis Quinlan.

The ad will run in Denver and Minnesota during the conventions, and for the next four weeks in the swing states of Ohio, Michigan, Virginia and Colorado.

Vets for Freedom Chairman Pete Hegseth, a decorated former Army infantry platoon leader in Baghdad, said in a statement: “Vets for Freedom will not stand by and let the incredible progress of our troops go unnoticed by the American public and lawmakers from either side of the aisle. Hegseth is at the convention to tell lawmakers, delegates and the press about his observation during a recent return to Iraq.
Denver drama: Clintons try for second act
“It is essential that our top legislators — regardless of party — understand the importance of victory in Iraq, the consequences of defeat and the success of the surge,” Hegseth said. “Sen. Obama has said that he would still oppose the surge if given another opportunity and has pointed to every outside factor but the surge to explain improvements in Iraq. We hope he will listen to the veterans who have served there and support this important resolution for the sake of the troops.” The group describes itself as a nonpartisan organization established by combat veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and as the largest Iraq and Afghanistan veterans organization in America.

National Support for PA Candidates

Many Republican candidates for the Senate and House deserve national support, and I'm doing what I can to make sure they get it. The following message to national leaders focuses on two Senate candidates (Dr. Steve Sauerberg against Obama sycophant Dick Durbin in Illinois and Jeff Beatty against Obama Supporter John Kerry in Massachusetts) and two House candidates (Melissa Hart in western PA and Toni Gilhooley in central PA).

Katie and others, as you know I have to "pick my spots" somewhat carefully. I will be sending out a mass mailing (and telling people to please alert their friends, family, and acquaintances to support certain candidates who are running against people who shafted Hillary Clinton). I need to keep the candidate numbers low enough not to turn people off with sheer volume. The candidates I'm zeroing in on are Steve Sauerberg (Illinois Senate), Jeff Beatty (Senate Mass.), Melissa Hart (Congress 4th District, my district, western PA), and Toni Gilhooley (PA 17th district, Harrisburg and surrounding area). I will ask people to highlight these candidates on their blogs and to send money ("at least a modest contribution"), and urge everyone to support them in any ways possible. The "Hillary-crats" I'm dealing with are mainly "Reagan Democrats.

Sauerberg and Beatty you know about. Details about Hart and Gilhooley are on their sites. These people are friends and very dear to me. Alicia Collins is Melissa's campaign manager. Jake Burns is Toni's campaign manager. Melissa's opponent, Jason Altmire, is anti-military and one of Pelosi's political "boy toys." Toni's opponent (Tim Holden) is a poor excuse for a human being who says he supports "moot" at the Democratic Convention. Is that Mr. Moot or Mrs. Moot?

Are there other terrific candidates for Congress in PA? In fact, there are many, and I'll be citing them this weekend. As far as their efforts to win, I'm going to do what I can -- when I can.

I firmly believe that for any of these candidates to win they MUST go after the Hillary Supporters. They can't win with Republicans alone. In most cases, their opponents have helped them by stabbing Sen. Clinton in the back.

My goal is to make 15,000 to 25,000 people nationally aware of the four candidates. They need financial supporters, and they need individuals across the country to advocate their candidacies.

Democrats "Party Loyalty" Sinking Fast

Lifelong Democrats increasingly are deserting the sinking ship that is their Party . . . That has huge implications for Republican candidates . . .

This has been one busy week, and it's only Wednesday. I've been posting mainly e-mails from Democrats who are no longer comfortable being Democrats. Many of them are now disgusted Democrats, or Independent, or -- in some cases -- (shudder) Republicans. If you scroll down, you'll see some examples. I'll have up more tomorrow.

Consider the following comments by Latonia, a Democrat totally dismayed by her Party:

"I don't understand why Republicans aren't trying to figure out how to come together and beat nobama. It seems that both parties have serious flaws. As soon as this election is over - I am going Independent - no party loyalties for me."

Republican candidates should go after those disgusted Democrats. In many case, there own represenatives are major factors in their disgust. Democrats like Jason Altmire and Patrick Murphy accepted campaign "contributions" from Obama. Then, they (coincidentally) backed Obama during and after the Pennsylvania Primary. Altmire will claim that's not true -- that he was "undecided." In fact, he fawned all over Sen. Obama during the primary season. It's a good idea to never believe anything Jason Altmire says. As for Murphy, a veteran, he jointed the anti-military wing of the Democratic Party as soon as Nancy Pelosi winked at him.

If these are the kind of congressman Pennsylvania wants, then God help us!

By the way, Altmire's opponent is Melisss Hart. Murphy's is Tom Manion. They need your support to defeat their morally corrupt opponents.

The following shows the usual pro-Obama media bias, but if you read between the lines, it says a lot about Clinton backers going to McCain. Barack Obama expressed his general contempt for the people of Pennsylvania (supposedly "clinging" to our guns and our God), and no one has forgotten the remarks.

A brother of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and local Democrats who backed her unsuccessful presidential campaign socialized privately Monday with a top surrogate of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Arizona Sen. John McCain.

The private gathering featured Carly Fiorina, McCain’s top economic adviser, and took place at the Dunmore home of political consultant Jamie Brazil, a longtime friend of Clinton’s family who has signed on as paid national director of McCain’s Citizens for McCain Coalition.

The attendees included Tony Rodham, Clinton’s youngest sibling, his wife, Megan, and their two children; attorney Kathleen Granahan Kane, who coordinated Clinton’s presidential campaign in northeast Pennsylvania during the Pennsylvania primary election; and Virginia McGregor, the sister of Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty.

With the Democratic National Convention less than a week away, the gathering raises questions about the support Illinois Sen. Barack Obama can expect from former local supporters of Clinton, who dominated voting in the northeast in the April primary election. Clinton won 74 percent of Lackawanna County Democrats, to Obama’s 26 percent.

Fiorina’s day-long local visit, part of a two-day bus tour of the state, was aimed at talking disenchanted former supporters of Clinton into supporting McCain. The private gathering was not a fundraiser.

“I think there’s going to be a groundswell of support for McCain,” said Lackawanna County District Attorney Andy Jarbola, a Republican and one of the people who attended. “I think a lot of Hillary supporters are going to be for McCain.”

Efforts to reach Brazil, Rodham and a spokesman for Clinton were unsuccessful.

Ellen Mellody, the northeast spokeswoman for Obama’s campaign, declined to comment on Rodham’s presence at the meeting, but said Obama’s backing by Clinton and Gov. Ed Rendell is supplemented by growing local support.

“We’re seeing huge support and momentum throughout the region,” Mellody said. “Currently, we have over 1,000 volunteers, many of which are independent Republicans and former Clinton supporters and volunteers. We expect to sign up hundreds more in the coming weeks. We have three offices open in the region and we are opening two more shortly.”

Kane said her presence at the gathering should not be read as a sign of support for McCain.
“I don’t know. I’m not sure. I’m trying to get as much information as I can on both of them,” she said when asked if she’s backing McCain. “I would have loved to see her as president. We still have a week to go. You never know what’s going to happen at the convention. I think she would be a fantastic choice (for vice president).”

Kane said she didn’t read Rodham’s presence as a sign he’s supporting McCain.

“No, it definitely does not. The reason he was there was because he and Jamie are very good friends,” Kane said. “I think that was just a social call.”

McGregor declined to say if she’s supporting Obama, but said she attended because Brazil is a friend.

“I was always a fan of Carly,” she said.

McGregor’s appearance also is no indicator of the position of her brother, Doherty, she said.
“It didn’t mean anything,” said McGregor, who ran Doherty’s successful 2005 re-election campaign. “I’m just a housewife. I’m a nobody.”

Doherty has publicly endorsed Obama.

Fiorina spoke briefly about McCain’s economic policies, but mostly mingled with her audience, Jarbola said. About 20 people attended.

After dropping by Brazil’s home, Fiorina addressed a public event at the Ramada Inn in South Abington Township. About a third of the audience was Democrats, based on a show of hands Fiorina requested.

Fiorina peppered her Ramada remarks with references to Clinton . . .

Brazil is a longtime close friend of the Rodham family and a friend of Rendell, who also supported Clinton.

Rendell is endorsing Obama, although he has said he will vote for Clinton when her name is placed in nomination at the convention next week.

Lackawanna County Recorder of Deeds Evie Rafalko McNulty, a Clinton convention delegate who plans to support Obama after the convention, lamented Rodham’s appearance at Brazil’s home for the private get-together with Fiorina.

“Poor Hillary,” she said. “You can pick you friends, but you can’t pick your family.”

Shell-Shocked Democrats Cry "Enough!"

As you've noticed, I'm printing one letter after another from people (mostly women, but some men) who have left the Democratic Party. I just received the following from (former) Democrat "Mary": "It is Hillary or McCain for me, and I will switch to Independent when this is all over." Mary

People like Mary are doing what they're doing because they're disgusted by the fraud and deceit in the primaries, particularly in the caucus states, where Obama used "Chicago Politics" to seize victories. They're also leaving because they're finally getting an understanding that the Party of FDR and JFK is as dead as a skunk run over by an 18-wheeler. Some of them people are becoming Indepedents, Republicans, or even Libertarians. Others are so by their Party's lack of patriotism, concern for America's future, or even regard for human life that they're shell-shocked. Previously, I've posted pieces by Lyn from Texas and Pam from New Jersey, and I urge you to read them. The following is from a brilliant young woman named Michelle, who posts on a Yahoo Group called "Eighteen Million Hillary Supporters." Now, she's committed to the one man of courage and integrity left in the race: John McCain. If you're a candidate yourself, these are voters you want. They see that the Democrat Party has no real connection with American values.

On the Yahoo Group, I told Michelle to stop responding to one dim-witted Democrat who responded to her thoughtful posts with soporific replies. She said:

"I'm beginning to see that. I have a feeling my post [one on stem-cell research] will be ignored, but that's typical. He is what people are seeing when they think "Democrat." I think a lot of the average folks are more FDR-type Democrats, but the extremists are really taking over and the lack of honesty and intellegence is truly frustrating. They are certainly louder, but that's a shame because most of what they screech is just plain stupid. It's like they have cue cards and just hit repeat ad nauseum."

The following is what Michelle wrote when she found out Obama favors something called "live-birth abortion." This happens in botched abortions when the child is born alive. Obama's position is that the infant should be allowed to die without receiving medical care. Michelle said:

"This is the most horrific thing I have ever heard. It's one thing for abortion to be legal, but this is pure and simple birthing- to-murder. This is something I would expect out of Germany circa 1940. And I HATE that all encompassing 'Hitler' comparison, so I am not comparing Barack to Hitler. I am comparing this act of Infanticide to Nazi Germany."

As Michelle suggests, this is today's Democrat Party, one dominated by ignorance and a disregard for human life. It's not a Party Pennsylvanians can identity with; it's not a Party Americans will vote into the White House.

"I will be water boarded before I vote for Obama. After what the DNC disenfranchised their own party members. I will be an independent after the convention. I will no longer be a Democrat. Democrats Say: "The Party's Over"

I urge everyone to read the previous day's piece by disaffected Democrats Pam from New Jersey and Lyn from Texas. Both of them are working hard to defeat Barack Obama, as well as other Democrats. Neither Pam nor Lyn regards herself anymore as a Democrat, a Party that has been their political "home" for their entire adult lives. Below are two other pieces I received today from Pam, a woman of courage, integrity, and vision. How many Pams are out there? I'd estimate in the hundreds of thousands. In fact, the number could be in the millions. Quality congressional candidates need to reach out to the Pams of this world, who may be the keys to victory.

I couldn't have said the following better than my friend Pam in NJ, who was a Hillary Supporter and a lifelong Democrat. Pam says:

"Sure you may repeat anything you need. After the convention, people have to make a decision about their lives, which may be the biggest they have made in a long, long time. People have to cut their ties with the Democratic party, forget all the bad stuff they have known or felt [over the primaries], and get on with their lives. The torment has been atrocious over the last eight months.

"Democrats have been stripped clean of their identity in politics and now they have to put on a new suit and get their integrity back. The Democratic party has been scraping away at the fabric of their so-called politics, and now we have to shed the Party [Democratic] altogether.

This will be my job to help them understand that if the Party can change so fast, why can't the Republican party not change [for the better] also?

"People are going to have to shift parties after going through this AWFUL stuff of Obama. Our old party is dead and long live the survivors and the Republican party."

People like Pam regard Obama as inexperienced, unqualified, untrustworthy, and -- most of all -- dangerous. They believe that a party which can nominate such an individual no longer deserves their support. My friends, reach out to the "Pams" who have separated themselves from the Democrats.

Patriotic, Disgusted Dems Leave Party

This first e-mail below is from Pam, who lives in New Jersey. What she says holds for many "Democrats," who increasingly will become "former Democrats." Another of my correspondents has that as a screen name: "fomerdemocrat." It's more of an intellectual and spiritual transformation than a case of marching to the courthouse to change registration. Thanks, Pam (The second e-mail is from Lyn, another disgusted Democrat.)

You'll hear from two courageous women, Bev Perlson and Debra Bartoshevich, who urge "Americans," men and women, not to vote for the pompous windbag Obama. They both illustrate the transformation going on in Pennsylvania and nationally.

Pam Says: You have done your job well. I don't know what to think of some of these people. Things change and I think the Democratic party has changed and is GONE. Get on with life and see where the Republican party will take you. I need structure, I need someone who knows what he is doing and not fidgeting in the dark. You are right.

his election is going to separate the boys from the men the girls from the women. What do you really want for you and your families' lives? I want what our forefathers wrote down in the constitution and BO has done everything but re-write the constitution and that is NOT GOING TO BE DONE ON MY WATCH.

I do understand your fatigue and you have been a good warrior. I will go into the hospital Tuesday for knee replacement and then be home until labor day. I will be going back to work then.

Things have to change on these boards after the convention. People have to get up and do and stay behind to suffer what BO can do.

I think of your often and praise all you have done in the name of your country. Stay calm, cool and collected. You have done a lot for McCain and he rewarded you well last night. He made a wonderful showing. I think the Republican party will be changing also for the good of the people with McCain...You have done a proud job for the party and your country. My hat is off to you sir. You take care and stay well. -- Pam

The following letter is from disgusted former Democrat Lyn in Texas:

I actually agree with everything you have said [about the Democratic Party becoming a menance to decent Americans]. I think my signature at the bottom of the email says all when it comes to the party. There is not one and sadyly I am realizing there are many views of the Democrats that I do not agree with anymore.

Many of us, including myself, are signed up as volunteers for Senator McCain off his official website. It was done befor all the side sites started up for Clintons for McCain. Once the [Denver] convention is over, I will have more time to focus on those sites. Senator McCain is someone I can respect and I will never have that for Obama, regardless of the other issues.

And, I am working night and day on all. I still believe that Hillary should be on the ballot, and yes she will probably lose, but it is her right and we will fight for that, and there are many that will hope for the win. I, too, do not see it happening but I will go down fighting for her to have her name recorded in nomination, instead of a present vote, which is what it would be if the nomination process is not carried through.

I personally think there was a fix after Obama's [2004] convention speech that made him known to the world. The next day there was an article written by Donna Brazille talking about the Obama factor in the next race. Hillary sure was not mentioned and others as well were ignored.

I am working with someone on something that I cannot go into details about. We hope to start it up in a couple of weeks and it will be focused on getting Democrats in battleground states to vote McCain. I really wish McCain would open a Ft. Worth office so I could go to work there; otherwise, my time is going to be limited as I have to get back to work when school starts and get some cash flow going. I have been off work all year so I have been able to do this but cash wise...am hurting.

Also working against John Kerry. So I would love to see your friend's Kerry info. If you are for him, I am sorry but the one hearing I have of him showed me he is not in touch with the people any more. I actually am trying to find someone to do a Youtube of a presentation i have put together but everyone is busy. [Note from Steve: I support Jeff Beaty, the Republican, against John Kerry.]

We also do have a list of traitors. I had already compiled a list of the states she won and the ones that endorsed Obama from those states. They will not be forgotten.

But you are right, people deserve what they get. Too many are falling in line because it is their party. I think that we can get some of them over to McCain. Not that it matters, but I already planned to write Barr when it gets closer and we know more what he is polling...one of those for the good of the country, endorse McCain.

Do not let Obama win. I mean really these guys know they don't have a chance but I know Barr is going to take away from John.

There are a 1000 emails going out tonight to editors all over the country re: nomination process and that if Obama does win it, then people need to be voting for the McCain. Otherwise, Obama is going to ruin the country. Actually trying to put some letters together now.

Guess I better get back to work. I cannot remember the last time I have gotten to sleep before 6 am but I need to try tonight. -- Lyn

McCain Draws Even in Gallup Poll!

McCain's continued strong performance in the national polls (see below) has positive implications for GOP candidates around the country. Obama has a big lead in three large states -- Illinois, New York, and California, as well as a huge lead in the District of Columbia -- and that suggests McCain is doing well in most of the other 47 states. McCain has a decent chance to win PA, OH, VA, FL, MI, MN, and CO -- all battleground states. PA's GOP candidates must emphasize that they are strongly "NoBama."

The Aug. 12-14 polling shows a slight dip in Obama's support, which had ranged between 46% and 48% (averaging 47%) in August. McCain has averaged 43% support among registered voters so far in August. Thus, the closer margin seen in today's results is due more to movement away from Obama than toward McCain. Twelve percent of registered voters now say they are undecided or supporting another candidate, which is on the high end of what Gallup has measured this year.

Voter preferences have been closely divided between Obama and McCain in each of the last three individual nights of polling, underscoring the notion that the race has tightened for the moment. This could to some degree reflect Obama's absence from the campaign trail while he vacations in Hawaii. He will return to the spotlight over the next few weeks upon naming his vice presidential running mate and accepting his party's nomination for president at the Democratic national convention, and both events have typically been associated with a bounce in support for a presidential candidate.

On Thursday, the Obama and Hillary Clinton campaigns announced an agreement to put her name into nomination for president at the convention. Given that the race has been tight for the past few days, it is unlikely this announcement is related to any change in Obama's support.

GOP Candidates: Ferocity, Not Fecklessness

Republicans: get much tougher -- or stop kidding yourself about winning . . .

I'll be putting up a new column this weekend. I've been spending a great deal of time on matters pertaining to Barack H. Obama -- specifically, doing what I can to ensure his defeat. One point I've been emphasizing is the need -- nationally and in congressional races -- for Republican candidates to confront Democrats. I'm talking not only about butting heads HARD with their opponents, but also asking registered Democrats if they really want a Congress that's bent on doing great damage to the country. The failure of Congress over a period of many decades to permit exploring for and producing oil has led to a national crisis. If we re-elect incompetent Democrats, the crisis will get much worse.

It's long past the time when we needed dignified debates about the "issues." When your Democratic opponent is corrupt and irresponsible, it serves no good cause to treat him as if he were FDR or JFK. Also, when people like Jason Altmire, Tim Holden, Patrick Murphy, Allyson Schwartz, Joe Sestak, and Paul Kanjorski are taking positions on the War that endanger the lives of American soldiers, it's time to take off the gloves.

Running a "traditional Republican" campaign -- one with a great deal of timidity disgusied as "dignity" -- is a sure recipe for defeat. Frankly, with four more years -- or eight more years -- of Democratic rule in Washington, the U.S. will be lucky if it's still a country.

Republicans need to campaign not with fecklessness, but with ferocity. If you want the office, then do what it takes to get it! Voters -- even Democrats -- are not entirely robotic. Hit them in the mouth with the truth, and they will wake up and respond effectively.

Don't kid yourselves that your opponents are "good, but misguided individuals>' Misguided they are, but good they're not. They're on a path to wreck the economy and undermine the nation's ability to protect itself.

People who care deeply about this country should visit the following sites and offer your support. If they don't get your support, then get used to a government controlled by Nancy Pelosi and her minions.

Note: I wrote the following on the "Black Conservatives Group" in response to Howard Deans' comment that the GOP was too white:

I live in Pennsylvania near the Ohio border. In the 2006 election, the Republican candidate for Governor in PA was Lynn Swann who, the last time I looked, was Black. He got 40% of the vote -- and 90$ of those votes (36% of the total) came from white people.

Something very similar happened in Ohio, where African-American Ken Blackwell ran against a white guy (Strickland), who picked up more than four-of-five Black votes. Michael Steele, also a Black man, ran against a white guy for Senate in Maryland. Steele was far the superior candidate and he got a majority of the white votes, but he was buried under votes from the Black community that went to the white guy.

I supported Swann, Blackwell, and Steele because they were better candidates -- and much better men.

In PA, Ed Rendell funneled three-quarters of a million in street money, mainly into Black wards in Philly, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg -- basically a "dollars-for-votes" scheme. Rendell did very, very well in those communities.

As long as voters -- Black and white -- reject good candidates for bad ones, our politics will remain in a shambles. It's tragic, because it means that in many African-American areas things will NEVER get better -- until and unless people smarten up.

Defeating Democrats Example: Allyson Schwartz

Pennsylvania candidates and their supporters: A critical point is that Keystone State Democrats and Independents can't vote in good conscience for congressional representatives who stabbed Hillary Clinton in the back. Such backstabbers essentially include the entire Pennsylvania congressional delegation, especially people like Jason Altmire and Patrick Murphy, who received money from Obama, Joe Sestak, Allyson Schwartz, and Tim Holden, a dithering Democrat who now claims to be supporting someone at the Convention named "moot."

Democratic voters with a conscience must either vote against such people -- the firmest step possible -- or not vote FOR them. Like courageous Wisconsin Democrat Debra Bartoshevich, PA Democrats must put conscience and country ahead of Party. There's no other position compatible with American values.

I wrote the following to supporters of Marina Kats, the Republican candidate for Congress in PA's 13th District (Montgomery County and Northeast Phiadelphia):

The Kats campaign is on the right track. It is essential to BRAND "good old Allyson Schwartz" as a menace to voters in the 13th.

In 1990, Christine Whitman waged a great Senate campaign against Bill Bradley. Basically she was saying (on radio) -- forecefully and often -- that "I'm a good, thoughtful person, and he's not. He is a terrible Senator." Bradley spent $11 million, and Whitman spent less than a million, and he won by only 51-48%.

The point to get across is that "Good ole Allyson and Good ole Nancy [Pelosi]" are wrecking the country. I know many voters in the 13th would like to vote for the "nice" liberal lady, but she and congressional Democrats are leaving an ash pit for the people in the nice communities of Montgomery County.

Who's going to buy those homes? Who can afford to both play golf and commute into Center City? Who's responsible for high gas prices? Allyson Schwartz is, because did nothing to prevent them. Blaming the failings of Congress on George Bush is absurd.

I really believe Marina should go after those Hillary votes. Tell them if you want someone who's not just a Pelosi-clone sneering at America and its values, vote for me. If you want the country to continue in decline, then by all means vote for Allyson.

Attorney Marina Kats needs to "pretend" she's in court and almost literally in a fight for her life. I'll help in any way I can, but my means are modest (to say the least).

The last thing politicians are supposed to do is to tell the truth. In this case, Marina has to do so. Schwartz and friends are wrecking the way of life people in Montco and NE Philly have spent all their lives building. Voters know that, but they're still in deial about fully admitting it.

Bulletin: I just wrote the following to a Democratic friend in the NoBama Movement: The bullying tactics of the Party bigwigs against Debra Bartoshevich and others are critical points to stress. Obama is the tip of the iceberg. Bev Perlson and other national groups just get ignored by Pelosi and her main allies, including Jack Murtha, who ran Nancy's campaign for Speaker. Murtha lost badly in his race for Dem Majority Leader because Steny Hoyer and others portrayed him as a crook, which according to CREW (Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington), he is.

We have congressional candidates in PA, including my rep Jason Altmire, who are backing Obama even though Hillary carried their districts by two-to-one. They believe they are immune from political consequences".

Perlson and her allied groups – including Gathering of Eagles, Soldiers Guardian Angeles, Vets for Freedom, and Free Republic – regularly confront anti-war legislators, including Nancy Pelosi and John Murtha.

Perlson has clashed memorably with the militant anti-war group CODEPINK. That group has conducted anti-military demonstrations before Congress and at a Berkeley, California Marine recruiting center.

He described Bartoshevich as “a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat.” He praised her courage in putting conscience and country ahead of Party.

On the radio program, Bartoshevich will discuss intimidation and strong-arm tactics being used by Democratic Party officials against Hillary Supporters.

Perlson will talk about how the political gamesmanship played by far-left members of Congress endangers the lives of soldiers like her son.

Both women will highlight why they’ve become strong members of the NoBama coalition.

The following paragraphs discuss races involving John McCain, Melissa Hart, Tom Manion, Toni Gilhooley . . . and Marina Kats.

I'll have a new column up on Tuesday evening (and it will function as the Wed. a.m. column). In the meantime, I have two column on other blogs that may be of interest). The first one is at: http://camp2008victorya.blogspot.com. It deals with "Seven Reasons Obama Will Lose "(nationally). Of course, it's critical for Pennsylvania congressional candidates that John McCain win this state -- and hopefully, win it big. To a large extent, "as McCain goes, so go the congressional challengers."

Another column discusses my political relationships -- over the past three months -- with Hillary Clinton Supporters who will -- or, in some cases -- may support John McCain. In several congressional races -- including Hart-Altmire, Manion-Murphy, and Gilhooley-Holden -- the Democrat basically stabbed Mrs. Clinton in the back. The Republican candidates need to exploit that face -- and even make it part of their advertising campaign. No Democrat in Pennsylvania or elsewhere can support Barack H. Obama without carrying some of the baggage he brings.

Also, I hope Marina Kats keeping asking her opponent, Schwartz, if she supports Obama, including his contempt for Pennsylvanians outside urban areas.

Sestak and Democratic Party Destruction

The boldfaced material about political slimeballs like PA 7th district congressman Joe Sestak (and add the "haircut man," John Edwards), is new today (Saturday). Some Democrats tell me people like Joe Sestak are leaders. There's no evidence that Sestak, along with most Democrats in Congress, are anything but followers.

Sestak, at the direction of people like Pelosi and Murtha, has taken positions that have endangered the lives of American servicemen and servicewomen. If there's a Hell -- and, in this case, I sure hope there is -- Sestak should burn in it. He's a thoroughly contemptible man. Like John Edwards, he's nothing more than an egomaniac and narcissist.

I've enjoyed writing about Joe Sestak's malicious efforts at misgovernment, and I'll do more over the next 90 days. Sestak's little more than a stooge for Nancy Pelosi. He's spent a lifetime as an order-follower, and now he follows the directions of Speaker Pelosi. Craig Williams is a far superior candidate, which doesn't mean he will win. It does mean he should win.

Some Pennsylvanians -- too many of them, unfortunately, vote "Dimmicrat" the way a flea-ridden dog scratches. In America now, there's a salutary discussion going on about whether people should vote for the Party -- or vote for the candidate and the country. In fact, the Democratic Party of Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and John F. Kennedy no longer exists.

There is no longer a patriotic, responsible Party for yesterday's Democrats to support. Instead, there's a Party for left-wing ideologues and America-haters, who are surely a small minority in this country.

One reason this blog exists to confront people with social and political realities that some people would like to ignore. People like Joe Sestak, Jason Altmire, Patrick Murphy, Tim Holden, and Allyson Schwartz are about as patriotic as Barack Obama's doorknob. That's why I support so strongly decent Americans like Craig Williams, Melissa Hart, Tom Manion, Toni Gilhooley, and Marina Kats. I hope you'll do the same.

Should Joe Sestak from Pennsylvania's 7th district (Delaware County and other parts of suburban Philly) be re-elected to Congress? Of course not. Craig Williams is a much better candidate for his district, for Pennsylvania, and for the U.S. In a previous column, I explained how Sestak plays footsie with terrorist-supporting groups. In this column, I show how he plays fast-and-loose with America's energy security.

Democrats who believe Sestak has any measure of integrity and thoughtfulness have no evidence to back up that belief. What's most disturbing about the following material is that it could be applied to any of the Democrats in PA seeking re-election -- Jason Altmire, Patrick Murphy, Tim Holden, Allyson Schwartz, and others.

Consider the following:

Sestak voted against adjournment in the Wednesday vote and then flip-flopped and voted for it on the Friday vote that officially ended the session. In short, Joe was "against adjournment before he was for it." That's a pitiful stance, but it's one that allows him to play both sides of the street with voters.

Sestak has voted with Speaker Nancy Pelosi 98% of the time (on all issues, not just energy). That means the voters of suburban Philadelphia are essentially represented by Mrs. Pelosi. Why even send a political tool like Sestak to DC?

Sestak also received more campaign contributions from left-wing special interest groups than any House member. The irony is that he tries to portray himself to voters back home as a moderate/conservative – which if you look at his record and who is contributing to him is not the case. In other words, feed the voters hogwash -- and save the steak and lobster for Queen Nancy.

Below is a recap of his votes to block consideration of legislation to address the energy crisis.

Sestak voted to block consideration of legislation to establish new refineries, allow energy exploration in ANWR and the Outer Continental Shelf, and provide incentives for alternative energies (Vote 391, 06/10/2008)

Sestak voted to block consideration of a bill that would extend many alternative energy and energy efficiency tax credits, and also to block consideration of amendments that would permit oil exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf (Vote 340, 05/21/2008)

Sestak Voted to block consideration of amendments that would allow oil drilling in ANWR (Vote 341, 05/21/2008). Of course, America should have started drilling in ANWR at least a decade ago. If we had, oil from ANWR would now be flowly freely -- and helping drive down the price of oil. Voting against such drilling now is nothing more than a sell-out to people like Obama who feel that Americans should be "punished" for driving SUVs.

Sestak voted to block consideration of a bill that would extend many alternative energy and energy efficiency tax credits, and also block consideration of amendments that would allow oil drilling in ANWR (Vote 310, 5/14/2008)

Sestak voted to block an amendment that would allow consideration of proposals to lower the price of gas, and would also require Speaker Pelosi to introduce legislation to lower gas prices (Vote 211, 4/23/2008) Right now, market forces alone are not enough to drive the develop of alternative sources of energy, something Sestak should know -- but apparently doesn't.

Sestak voted to block consideration of a bill that would repeal the ban on the federal government acquiring certain alternative fuels, including oil shale and liquefied coal (Vote 451, 6/25/2008)

Sestak voted against requiring research projects that could lower gasoline prices to be given special consideration for federal funding (Vote 216, 4/23/2008)

Sestak voted to block consideration of a bill to encourage coal-to-liquid fuel projects
(Vote 480, 07/10/2008). Two generations ago, the Germans ran their war machine on liquefied coal, but for some unknown reason, Democrats fear using our country's massive coal reserves.

Sestak voted to block consideration of a bill that would open new oil refineries on closed military bases (Vote 435, 6/20/2008). Of course, such refineries would provide exactly the kind of "good paying jobs" that Democrats supposedly favor. It would save us from a potentially dangerous dependence on foreign refineries for gasoline and heating oil.

If the people of the 7th District return Joe Sestak to office, they've lost their collective minds.

Why does Congressman Joe Sestak continue to play footsie with terrorists?

How, you ask, could someone like Congressman Joe Sestak, who had such a successful career in the Navy, become a card-carrying member of the unpatriotic wing -- the completely cynical wing -- of Nancy Pelosi's Democratic Party? The answer is that Congressman Joe is good at gaming whatever system he's in. When he was in the Navy, he was a good (order-obeying) Navy man. When he switched careers to politics, he became the consummate politician. Now, the orders he obeys come not from from an Admiral or the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, but from Pelosi and Hoyer. Joe's not a naval hero who went bad. He is, as he's always been, the consummate company man. It's just that now he keeping very bad company. "I was only following orders."

From now through Sunday, I'll write about the race between Rep. Joe Sestak and Craig Williams, a contest taking place in Delaware County (suburban area around Philly). William is a U.S. Marine. Sestak was previously a high-ranking Navy officer and supposedly an expert on terrorism. Currently, he uses his understanding of terrorism to play footsie with groups that support it. Apparently, this is the "approved" approach for ambitious House Democrats.

I've strongly endorsed Craig Williams. Frankly, Craig is a real, patriotic American. Joe Sestak, the former Navy man, is a politician who exemplifies the quintessence of cynicism. He now seems to assume that America will take care of itself, and he will take take care of . . . Joe Sestak. In terms of raising campaign money, Joe's approach seems -- unfortunately -- to be working. Groups who are looking for no more than a pliant stooge in Congress are pouring money into Sestak's coffers. It's shameful, of course, but shame is not Joe's strong suit.

Democrats like Sestak seem to have very practical goals: they want to do whatever it takes to stay in Congress forever. They apparently want to emulate someone like West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd. He's been in the Senate for nearly half-a-century, and he can be seen regularly on the Senate floor, babbling, drooling and -- occasionally -- crying copious tears.

As a congressman, Sestak has violated his oath of office and spent much of his time slavishly adhering to Nancy's Pelosi's directive. Most disturbingly, he has continued to flirt with groups that are hostile to U.S. interests. He's been especially supportive of the Council on Islamic and American Relations (CAIR). In fact, CAIR is a group that backs terrorists -- but does so skillfully enough to keep its members out of federal prisons.

Sestak seems to look at it this way: In the Navy, you fight terrorists. In the Congress, however, you look at them not as advocates of mass murder, but rather as voters. You go along with them to the degree necessary to ensure your re-election.

I'll be writing more about this tomorrow (Friday) and this weekend. After the links below, I'll reprint a WSJ piece about Sestak's favorite presidential candidate, Barack Obama, who also flirts with terrorists in America and in his father's homeland of Kenya.

The Muslim-outreach coordinator to the presidential campaign of Barack Obama has resigned amid questions about his involvement in an Islamic investment fund and various Islamic groups.
Mr. Asbahi said he did not want to distract Obama's campaign.

Chicago lawyer Mazen Asbahi, who was appointed volunteer national coordinator for Muslim American affairs by the Obama campaign on July 26, stepped down Monday after an Internet newsletter wrote about his brief stint on the fund's board, which also included a fundamentalist imam.

"Mr. Asbahi has informed the campaign that he no longer wishes to serve in his volunteer position, and we are in the process of searching for a new national Arab American and Muslim American outreach coordinator," spokesman Ben LaBolt said in a statement.

A corporate lawyer at the firm of Schiff Hardin LLP, Mr. Asbahi tendered his resignation after he and the Obama campaign received emailed inquiries about his background from The Wall Street Journal. He did not respond to the email or a message left at his law office; the campaign released a letter in which Mr. Asbahi said he did not want to be a distraction....

In 2000, Mr. Asbahi briefly served on the board of Allied Assets Advisors Fund, a Delaware-registered trust. Its other board members at the time included Jamal Said, the imam at a fundamentalist-controlled mosque in Illinois.

"I served on that board for only a few weeks before resigning as soon as I became aware of public allegations against another member of the board," Mr. Asbahi said in his resignation letter. "Since concerns have been raised about that brief time, I am stepping down...to avoid distracting from Barack Obama's message of change."

The eight-year-old connection between Mr. Asbahi and Mr. Said was raised last week by the Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Report, which is published by a Washington think tank and chronicles the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood, a world-wide fundamentalist group based in Egypt.

Other Web sites, some pro-Republican and others critical of fundamentalist Islam, also have reported on the background of Mr. Asbahi. He is a frequent speaker before several groups in the U.S. that scholars have associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Justice Department named Mr. Said an unindicted co-conspirator in the racketeering trial last year of several alleged Hamas fundraisers, which ended in a mistrial. He has also been identified as a leading member of the group in news reports going back to 1993....

Allied Asset Advisors is a subsidiary of the North American Islamic Trust [NAIT]. The trust, which is supported financially by the government of Saudi Arabia, holds title to many mosques in the U.S. and promotes a conservative brand of Islam compatible with the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood and also akin to the fundamentalist style predominant in Saudi Arabia. Allied executives did not respond to inquiries.

NAIT was listed by the Brotherhood operative Akram, in that same memorandum, as a group allied with the Brotherhood's program.

Tomorrow (Thursday) More about an important congressional race in PA's 7th district (Delaware County and adjacent areas) between Rep. Joe Sestak and challenger Craig Williams. Frankly, Craig Williams, a Marine, is a courageous and thoughtful man. Sestak is an ex-soldier who's determined the best path to a Beltway political career is to join with Nancy Pelosi and John Murtha in endangering the lives of American servicemen and servicewomen.

Bulletin: Rasmussen: McCain Trusted More Than Obama On 9 Out of 14 Electoral Issues

Like Speaker Pelosi, Sestak believes the best solution to $4 a gallon gasoline is to do nothing. Sestak is great political fundraiser (see OpenSecrets.com), which means he's learned the "Beltway Trick": sell out to every special interest group that shows up with a bag-full of money. He should be ashamed of himself, but of course shame is not the Democrats' strong suit.

Another important race is taking place in Pennsylvania's 4th district, where I live. This district is one that consists mainly of moderate-to-conservative Democrats and conservative Republicans. "Our" representative is Jason Altmire, who masquerades as a moderate -- but always votes the Pelosi-line on important matters.

In 2006, Altmire -- an overweight individuals who sneers a lot -- ran as something of a hawk on military matters. He said he opposed a "timetable" for withdrawal on Iraq. He added that he would base his views on information received from "commanders-on-the-ground" in Iraq. He used this stance to narrowly defeat Congresswoman Melissa Hart -- his opponent again this year.

After the election, Altmire sang a different tune. The recipient of huge direct and indirect contributions for John Murtha, Altmire described the Johnstown congressman as his "campaign manager." The same lobbyists who have paid off Murtha for years have found a "new friend" in Jason Altmire.

In D.C., he moved quickly to vote with Murtha in calling for a withdrawal timetable. Like Murtha and Pelosi, he ignored guidance from commanders on the ground. The underlying message to people in the 4th district was, "Fooled ya, didn't I?"

How much has Altmire deviated from Pelosi's far-left line? Not all all. In fact, columnist Robert Novak said of Altmire that "he doesn't have a conservative bone in his body." Of course, Altmire's re-election depends on keeping that fundamental reality hidden from his constituents.

How does Altmire stand on the crucial issue of bringing gas prices down by encouraging domestic energy production? He claims he's all for such production. However, he never votes for it. He acts as if energy is not a problem. He has no coherent view of how America can stop spending a good chunk of its national wealth on foreign oil.

ALTMIRE GIVEN PERMISSION SLIP FROM

POLITICAL BOSS TO BUCK LEADERSHIP

Will his actions finally match his rhetoric?

Cranberry Township, PA – In light of recent reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has given Jason Altmire the green light to buck her will and that of the rest of the Washington, D.C. Democratic leadership, Melissa Hart issued a statement calling on Jason Altmire to end his refusal and immediately sign the American Energy Production and Exploration discharge petitions that are circulating in Congress. These petitions would bring the bills for more American supply up for a vote immediately.

“Altmire’s political boss, Speaker Pelosi has given him permission to disagree with her publicly, so let’s see some action. Jason Altmire has talked a lot about how much he would like to move this issue forward in the House - now he has the opportunity to put his name down on paper and prove that he wants a vote,” said Hart

According to House Democratic staff, Altmire’s new found independence is all part of Speaker Pelosi’s plan:

“Democratic House aides say the energy agenda has been carefully gamed out in strategy sessions, and Pelosi always intended to take heat on gas prices while tacitly encouraging more vulnerable Democrats to publicly disagree with her and show their independence.

Freshman Democrats like Jason Altmire of Pennsylvania and Don Cazayoux of Louisiana have taken her up on the offer.” The Politico, 8/5/08

“There have been a number of good proposals introduced in the House for over a year, Altmire did not support them and Pelosi would not allow even one vote on any of them. In fact, Altmire blocked efforts to bring these bills up for a vote as recently as last week. If Altmire’s nifty new pro-drilling position is more than desperate rhetoric, he will sign the discharge petitions and ensure there is an immediate up-or-down vote, so our country can begin on the path to American energy independence. The voters in Western Pennsylvania have been begging for this for a long time, but we aren’t foolish enough to hold our breath where Altmire is concerned,” stated Hart.

There are currently seven discharge petitions circulating for legislation that will open America’s oceans to energy exploration, open new American oil refineries, and invest in clean energy sources such as wind, nuclear, and captured carbon dioxide. When the necessary 218 signatures are obtained on the petition, Speaker Pelosi would be forced to have an up or down vote on the bill.

“I’ve yet to see or hear anything from Altmire to explain the timing of this brand new position, so I’m left to think, as are the rest of the voters that the only logical reason is it was politically expedient. This situation raises the real issue at hand – do the voters want a Congressman that will represent them all the time, or just when their political boss gives him the go ahead?”

Craig Williams: Drill ANWR Now!

I'm sending the material below over the next day to many people in Pennsylvania, both "sides" of the state. I'm going to make this a sustained effort through September (and probably longer). Many people came to the state either for Kerry or Bush in 2004, and I believe there will be many more this year. I believe McCain could draw even in PA as early as the first or second week of September.

Bulletin: from mid-August until election day (Nov. 4), there will be MANY people from out-of-state (and out of your district) coming to battleground states to campaign for John McCain. Among the key states are PA, OH, and VA. There will be an urgent need for housing and food for the people that will be visiting your area. If you can't provide housing (or a "free" meal), perhaps you can help defer a portion of the costs of people's staying over at the local version of the Red Roof Inn. The people who are coming could just be the ones who make the difference between John McCain's winning the state -- and his not doing so. My First-Hand Observations of ANWR

With gas prices at as much as $4 per gallon local residents are feeling the impact in other aspects of our daily lives. As a result of high gas prices, the cost of food and other consumer goods is more expensive, police and fire stations are cutting back on patrols and volunteers, and schools are decreasing the areas where they will provide busing this fall. Everything in our daily lives is tied to energy.

Increasing our domestic oil production, specifically in the Arctic tundra of Alaska will help address the current energy crisis. I recently traveled to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to determine first-hand if we could responsibly drill for oil and natural gas in a limited area of the refuge. I came away from my experience firmly convinced that we should begin exploration of the coastal plain of ANWR immediately.

We send $700 billion each year to foreign countries for oil. Those countries, many of which are openly hostile to our democratic way of life, provide 67 percent of our oil needs and have enormous control over our economy. Taking immediate control of our own energy needs is a matter of national and economic security. We need to reduce – and eventually eliminate – our dependence on foreign oil as we bridge our way to the next generation of renewable energy. Drilling in ANWR will not fix our current energy crisis, but it will help.

During my trip, we flew the entire length of ANWR and large portions of the reserve are truly beautiful with rolling mountains, rivers, and fields of wild flowers. But the area proposed for drilling is on the other side of the Brooks Mountain Range. It is a flat and barren tundra. There are no trees and I saw no teeming wildlife. And this was summer. Winter on the North Slope lasts 8-9 months when the coastal plain is covered in ice and snow and temperatures reach 30 degrees below zero.

I spoke with community leaders in the small Eskimo village of Kaktovik – located within ANWR itself. Those leaders overwhelmingly support drilling in ANWR. This is a subsistence community that lives off of the land and they insist that any drilling on their tundra must be done responsibly. They believe that it can.

I also compared the 1970s oil technology in Prudhoe Bay to some of the latest technology at a facility called Alpine. The footprint of the facilities has shrunk dramatically. A drilling site that once required as much as 140 acres can now be compressed into as little as 5 acres. Today’s facilities are also largely self-sustained, requiring no permanent supply roads across the vast tundra. This new technology, including the drastically compressed footprint, would be used in ANWR. The local natives insist on it, and it is the right thing to do.

In Barrow, Alaska, I spoke with officials from North Slope Borough. All were overwhelmingly in favor of responsible drilling in ANWR. They also derided the Democrats “use it or lose it” stance. They noted that although the National Petroleum Reserve Alaska has recoverable oil, companies are unable to drill there because environmentalists have kept the leases locked up in litigation for the past 10 years. They also pointed out it would require a 250 mile pipeline to reach the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and that the Army Corps of Engineers will not permit the companies to build a pipeline over a major river. In addition, the Bureau of Land Management will not issue the construction permits to begin drilling. They correctly saw “use it or lose it” as a political charade designed to deflect attention from the inaction by Congress on this issue.

ANWR is not the answer to our energy needs, but it is the best first-step. The area being proposed for drilling makes up less than one half of one percent of the coastal plain of ANWR – an area that is a barren, frozen tundra 8 to 9 months of the year. Modern technology will also allow us to reduce the size of any new drilling operation and minimize impacts on the environment. In addition, I heard from local leaders who overwhelmingly support drilling in ANWR – and these are people who live there and know the terrain better than any Pennsylvanian could ever hope to.

We can recover critical oil and natural gas from ANWR in well under the 10 years that Democrats tell us it will take. Now we have to convince the Democrats in Congress . . . or vote them out. They are the only thing standing between us and economic relief and independence. It is time to take control of our own country. Our future security demands it.

Tomorrow, I'll write about the congressional race in PA's 7th district between Craig Williams and Joe Sestak. How does Sestak feel about the above issues? He basically sides with Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama in thinking that the energy situation is just fine as it is. A shameful stand.

God Bless Congressman Dan Manzullo of Illinois for his rousing speech during this "Boston Tea Party", and all the Congressman who took a gutsy stand in representing Americans. The Elitist Democrats have nerve beyond comprehension to leave for a 5 week vacation, one that we pay for, while most American families cannot afford to take their own families on a one week vacation! If Clinton hadn't vetoed this same issue ten years ago, we wouldn't be facing this problem right about now! The gall and lack of vision is appallingly endless with the majority of the Democratic politicians!

Please note: as the Republicans gallant stand was going on inside the House, my fellow Patriots and I were busy on the phone to Steny Hoyer's office, Rahm Emanuel's office and James Clyburn's office. We asked asked them to pass a message to Her Highness Nancy Pelosi (impossible to talk to someone in her office, you are immediately switched to a comment line!) that we are outraged at the behavior of this Elitist Democratic Congress. To leave for a 5 week vacation without allowing a floor vote to DRILL HERE DRILL NOW is arrogant and downright elitist.

As was pointed out to each office I spoke with, Madame Pelosi wants to save the planet so she doesn't want any drilling here, as she flies off on her 5 week vacation on the biggest jet ever allowed to a Speaker of the House! Imagine how much fuel that gas guzzler burns (reminds me of what my father use to say "The spanking doesn't hurt when it is on someone else's behind!)

I shared with staffers in these offices the many times we fed up Americans have stood on the corner of the Cannon Bldg (see http://www.thebandofmothers.com/, http://www.gatheringofeagles.com/, and http://www.freerepublic.com/) and observed Madame Speaker drive by us in her chauffeur driven, gas guzzling Suburban! Her chauffeur drives her from the back of the Cannon Bldg across the street to the Senate Bldg! AND WE PAY FOR THIS NONSENSE!!! She obviously is not concerned about the cost of all this gas she is burning up because she's not paying for this, we are!

Madame Speaker and the Democrats want us to go buy a new car (!) and look to windmills for our energy source!!! Remember though, we can't put those windmills in Teddy Kennedy's backyard as the Elitist Kennedys will not "allow" those windmills in the waters off Martha's Vineyard, it obstructs their beautiful view!!; Al Gore wants us to buy into his carbon offsets to line his own pockets yet he burns more electricity than 10 households put together!!! Living like Kings they are, as we pay for their silly whims and struggle to make ends meet!

It just goes on and on, but not anymore! As Congressman Dan Manzullo stated today "We are taking our country back!" I heard that very statement one year ago in a speech by Chris Hill, National Director of The Gathering of Eagles (see the video on the front page of The Band of Mothers website and you will hear Veteran Chris Hill's most moving passionate speech as he said those exact words last March 15th).

I heard that very same statement made by another great Patriot, Joe from Illinois, this past July on the Corner of the Cannon Bldg! Joe uses a bullhorn when we gather on the corner and I know he would have gladly handed his bullhorn over to the Republicans today when the Elitist Speaker of the House turned off the lights and the sound in our House of Representatives! Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, attempted to Silence Republican Legislators and threatened to throw them out of the People's House!!!

Madame Pelosi has forgotten that this "House" is not her house, it is ours!!! The nerve of her to attempt to deny American Legislators their basic first amendment right to freedom of speech, in the very "House" that MUST safeguard this precious right! I would expect this behavior out of Putin over in Russia, or from Iran, but never ever in our own House of Representatives!

If George Washington were here today, he would stand tall and proud of this Republican Congress for their guts and fortitude in standing up to these reckless and careless politicians.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: PA & NV!

"Barack Obama did bring us together -- but not in the way he wanted."

Dear Blogger or Web Hoster or other onliner committed to just saying "NoBama": Things are really heating up in the united effort to make sure the next President of the U.S. is NOT named Barack H. Obama. In the most recent Gallup Poll pitting BHO against John McCain, the latter came out ahead by four points among likely voters.

Right now in several states there's an urgent need for people who will volunteer to communicate with their fellow voters (including by e-mail and phone). Two states that are winnable with a sustained effort are Nevada (close) and Pennsylvania (the race has tightened significantly). The people now on the ground in those states (and others) truly need your help.

If you prefer to register at another site, I strongly recommend www.realdemocratsusa.org. I work closely with that group, which is a superb one.
